Sculpin is a pretty true rep for West coast. Lots of hop and bitter and not much juice or malt balance.

I can dig it, but I get why it wouldn't be for everyone.

If it's the worst IPA you've had, though, I'd love to see the list of IPA's that you've had.

I actually don't get much hops/ bitterness out of it which is why I don't care for it.

I guess I was excited from the hype and just didn't agree with it.
Not living up to hype and being one of the worst IPAs you've ever had are magnitudes different. It's infinitely better than Upslope, which frankly isn't good.

IPA is a style meant to be drank as fresh as possible. From the tap house in San Diego all the sculpin varieties were great (but not as good as Societe's IPAs). From a grocery shelf 2000 miles away after an unknown time then who can say.

Really? That's all I get from the left Coast brews. BP, Stone, knee deep, even Pliny is just a hop bomb to me. Some pine, pepper and definitely dank in a couple, but not a ton of citrus.

The wonders of subjective taste buds.

I should clarify I had the Upslope imperial IPA. Which I thought was better than the Sculpin. I didn't get hoppiness out of the sculpin at all. Found it very mellow. It says it's supposed to be 70 IBU but it felt like half of that to me. Surely I can't list all of the IPAs I've ever had but it's a lot. This may not have been the WORST but it's very low on the totem pole. I immediately told my SO after taking one sip that it wasn't very good.

The first couple times I tried Sculpin, I thought it was terribly overrated too. Turns out, I had only had pretty old bottles. When I tried week old Sculpin, I enjoyed it a whole lot more.

Sculpin does seem to fall off pretty quickly though.

The fact of the matter though is that fresh from the brewpub tap #45 on that list is still an awesome beer. I'm surprised that nothing from 3floyds is on that list unless I missed it; I'd put alpha King or zombie dust on my top APA/IPA lists...

Oddly enough, my experience at bars is that it's in range with other quality IPAs. So I'll order it on draft, but won't buy off the shelves.

Same, it's almost always reasonable at bars
