That didn't seem to be exactly what he was saying. More that his prior experiences in Atlanta had been crappy, and that he's happy to see them stepping up their game.

Just a few years ago, ATL did not have all this, just chains and decent steakhouses. Just as happy dining in ATL as NOLA and I was happy for the change.

For whatever it's worth, I think he's pretty dead on with this, from my limited prior and recent experience in the town.

Exactly. Not really a comparison to NOLA, which I love by the way. Also - there were several restaurants in ATL to chose from that really looked inviting. Just light years ahead of where ATL was around the turn of the century. I think that point has been pretty well documented, not just my opinion. I think the cause is a new generation of chefs coming into their own and taking risks to craft restaurants/menus that they want. The fact that this could happen in ATL makes me excited for what can happen (potentially) in my hometown. There are a lot of younger folks coming back to Houma and they seem to not be satisfied with what's here now (a lot of chains, a a few fine dining establishments.) I'm hoping this crew makes something happen albeit on a smaller scale.

No need to be dooshy, urine.

Definitely. Atlanta has come a long way the past 5-10 years, there is no denying that.

Just to add something, Korean food in Atlanta is the bomb. Seriously just drive down buford highway and stop somewhere.

The ethnic food scene in Atlanta is very overlooked. Plenty of good Korean, Mexican, and Ethiopian.

I can say after living here for a couple of months that the food scene here is very strong. Much better than it use to be when I lived here in the 90's
I tried Pampas Steakhouse and was very impressed. Everything was really good and service was outstanding. I still prefer Bones bone in ribeye though. I have heard good things about Lil Alleys in Roswell so I will try that soon.
I am going to Anticos for pizza today and look forward to it. I have heard its the best in atlanta and some say in the country. We shall see.
Not really a "foodie" place, but something Baton Rouge could use is a Lennys sub shop. Its like crack. lol

Anticos is awesome. But be prepared to wait and it is shared seating meaning you order and will most likely be sitting next to random ppl. I typically will eat it at my car or to go. Probably the best pizza I've ever had.

I went to Little Alley for my birthday last year I think... steaks are ridiculous. But that is Roswell which I don't really consider Atlanta.

I have heard a new restaurant called Bite has been getting great reviews, has anyone been there? I am going to have to go when I get home from school.

Had the best Jamaican food I've ever had there. Can't remember the name of it.

Also ate at some hole-in-the-wall Cuban restaurant that was incredible. Sat in an alley that had vines growing off a staircase. Made me think I left Atlanta.

But as for fine dining -

You need to go to Canoe. I ate their before it was damaged and remodeled, but I'm sure if that girl is still there as the chef, it has to be incredible.

Canoe is very good. Go in the spring or summer about an hour before your reservation and get a drink or 5 at the bar by the river. Beautiful.

Check out Howell Mill Road right off 75. Lots of new offerings there.

Have you been to the Vortex?

Canoe is alright. Nice ambiance, food has never blown me away. Like I said in the Mellow Mushroom thread a few weeks ago Antico is the best pizza in ATL.

The Butcher, the Baker on Marietta Sq is relatively new and was quite good when I went a few weeks ago and Tasty China, original location, in Marietta is awesome for authentic, spicy food. I want to go to Gunshow, haven't had the chance yet.

Best meal I have had in a few years was at Le Pigeon in Portland, OR a few weeks ago. James Beard winner and hands down awesome, 5-savories and wine flight.
