I just spent the weekend in Atlanta visiting family and came away very impressed with the vibrancy of the Atlanta restaurants in which Mrs Debaser and I had the pleasure of dining.

Since my two brother in laws are chefs, we hit their places:

Bantam and Biddy - very casual. Chicken and waffles, pork schnitzel, best biscuit I have ever eaten. I think their plan is to have several "Biddy" themed restaurants around ATL region.

One Earned Stag - Fine dining. Had just about every appetizer and the mammoth ribeye. Rob Phalen makes the best terrine / cured meats, pickled items.

Now onto the non-relatives:

Watershed - Heirloom beat salad. fresh greens. shaved fennel. Roast beef lunch special. Wife had chicken fried eggs. Great bloody Mary ( not too thick and just the right amount of spice with house pickled garnish). Milk cake.

Empire State South - great cocktail bar and great food offerings, but we were stuffed. We were there on the last night of the resident mixologist Omar who is moving to New York. He offered up some fantastic libations. Beautiful, Beautiful bar and space. Will definitely need to eat here next time.

Community Que. Ok we have Big Mike's in Houma and it's good. Community Que is other worldly good. Ribs, BBQ beans, cole slaw. Seved on metal platters with checkerboard wax paper. Best BBQ I've ever had.

The main thing that strikes me is the freshness and variety of vegetables. Just a few years ago, ATL did not have all this, just chains and decent steakhouses. Just as happy dining in ATL as NOLA and I was happy for the change. Also - the newer restaurant spaces are designed better, more thought out, more inviting. Great times!

I was there a couple of weeks ago...

Antico was the best pizza I have ever had... they have 3 ovens cranking those bad boys out. From the time we ordered, to the time the pizza was sitting in front of us was 7 minutes... tops...

There are just as good or better places to eat outside of the perimeter. Check out the burbs next time you are there. Specifically east cobb (Roswell, Marietta, etc.)

I haven't tried, but if you are just connecting it seems like the place to go. The new international terminal has decent food too.

Do you see the wondrous monstrosity above you? It's no wonder Cam Newton remains a fan of the Atlanta Falcons, because they're the ones who have created this behemoth of a barbecue burger and begun to distribute it for just $5 at their training camp.

I've seen a bunch of names on twitter for this nasty thing. My favorite is the "One and Done Burger"

Every Atlanta thread I tell everyone to eat at Pampas. It is in Alpharetta and was rated by zagat as the number one steak house for food in the country.

Antico is hands down the best pizza I have eaten. So good my girlfriend and I ate there twice during our visit last year. Also ate at two urban licks which was also very good.

Anticos is very very good. If I was to suggest one pizza restaurant in Atlanta it would be that.

Pork belly, Kobe burger, pulled duck sandwich and salads are great. Sushi gets a lot of love too. Im not a sushi fan. I'll be passing thru there at some point tommorow. Hope to hell I'm not laid over long enough to eat at OFS though.

I've been in ATL for 2 years now and have only heard of Empire State South... I really need to get out more

What are some good local ITP places that aren't high end? I find myself visiting the same restaurants over and over unfortunately.

So you went to a major American city, had good experiences in THREE restaurants that you could objectively judge, and have now concluded that the restaurant scene is "strong" there and as satisfying as New Orleans.

Only been to bones once but I will say yes. Literally everything I have had at pampas is fantastic. Their signature is the brick filet which is 14oz filet it is unbeatable. Also their lamb and sea bass is amazing. Seriously I don't know how people don't know about this place.
