Well I do smoke whole cabbage. Cut the core out, put a stick of butter in it and wrap in foil. Toss on smoker or pit and after about 45 minutes open the foil and let it take on some smoke until it’s completely tender. Goes good with baked beans and a burger.

Wrap softball sized onion sliced about an inch thick in foil after a couple generous dashings of Worchestershire sauce and reassembled. Place on grill 10-15 minutes. Comes out a spicy, smoky, pickled kinda onion.

I hadn’t thought about it for a burger, but I prefer raw onions on a burger. They’re great for a soup, sauce or dip. So are tomatoes and mushrooms.
