I did not think they were available where I live and came across some at Publix this week. I am curious how other people doctor them up. I usually use 1 can regular beans to two cans bluerunner. I saute onion, bell pepper, celery and garlic. Then simmer beans with chicken stock, bay leaf, thyme, ham hocks and sausage. Always comes out great and you would never know they weren't from scratch.

Add one can of Van Camps red kidney beans to every can of BR.

The sautéed trinity is standard protocol. Garlic is as well.

Add a little shot of vinegar, shot of Tabasco, shot of Crystal, salt, pepper, and a bay leaf.

I also sometimes add a small splash of crab boil.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, my wife hates bluerunner and only likes Trappy since that's what her dad made bland red beans and rice with growing up

Basically what I do minus the thyme. Always comes out damn good and no one knows they came from a can.

Of course, I only make red beans and rice two or three times a year when I have a slow weekend, so the long cook time doesn't bother me too much. When I cook a pot, I make like 2 or 3 gallons of it at a time so I'll have ready-to-go servings stocked up in the freezer for months.

We do not. Beans are too easy to cook but I can see if you are in a pinch and need to do something quick it could be an option.

On occasion. I'll usually fry up some very crispy bacon and crumble it in and add a little of the grease.

My kids would kill for some blue runner red beans.

It makes it so convenient when the wife or I get home from work to thaw a pack of smoked deer sausage and throw it in a pot with 2 or 3 cans of New Orleans Style Creamed red beans.

It's not a gourmet meal, but it's quick and damn good.

From the large displays in grocery stores across the area, I would say a lot of folks do.
