I agree. The whole canned beans are in some sort of slimy brine, and the cream style beans are too thick and too mashed up. It takes a little longer, but it's too easy just to do them the right way.

I haven't eaten the Blue Runner beans since college. I make them the right way.

Red beans are so easy to cook why use can red beans

Time is the reason.

When you get home from work at 6 and the kids ask what's for supper, they don't want to hear "let me soak some beans and we'll eat them tomorrow night"

Some people don't have the time, patience or ability to cook red beans. Besides the Bluerunner canned beans are only cooked with the expectation of people adding their own other ingredients.
Don't forget they also have dried red beans too!

I do that as well. Sometimes I get a pack of fresh sausage or ground meat brown it down with some onions, add 1 large can of Blue Runner and a small can of red kidney beans that I rinse the slime off. Takes about 30 minutes, I serve that over some hot white rice, one of my kids favorite quick meals.

We use them all the time. On a time crunched Monday, it's the perfect 20min meal.

Yep. It's one of my go-to "don't feel like cooking" meals.

Maybe my real red beans just suck, but my wife claims she doesn't really taste the difference.

My wife does. We both get home after 5 and with 2 kids to feed, they work well in a pinch. She sauté the trinity, throws in some sliced Double D smoked sausage, cooks that down a bit, 2 cans of beans, chicken stock to thin them down, a pinch of cayenne and 30 minutes later, they're done. That and some fried pork chops make for a killer meal in under an hour.

I don't usually get home until 6 and my wife doesn't cook. If I know I want to eat red beans that week, I'll soak or cook them completely on Sunday. If it's a weekday and my kids ask for red beans, I tell them ill soak them tonight and we'll eat then tomorrow.

Same, definitely a random guilty pleasure of mine, like them better than soaked beans. I don't eat red beans all that often though.

What's more of a cheat - blue runner or crock pot beans?

We do crock pot beans all the time. Throw trinity, garlic, salt, pepper, red beans, and a ham hock in the crock pot in the morning before heading out the door. Let them stew all day and throw the sausage in when I get home in the afternoon.

My kids crush them.

I had to leave in a hurry yesterday to go to a funeral when I was typing my reply here.
I have used Bluerunner beans to make red beans and rice for 200 and for 300 person crowds. I've even had the owners of Bluerunner at a few of the red bean dinners seek me out and ask how and whatI did to prepare them with them saying they had never had them taste that delicious before.

Use about equal amounts of canned whole beans with the Creole Cream Style Beans along with clery, bell pepper, onions and garlic. A good SMOKEY sausage will make a huge difference to the end product. There's nothing wrong with using BR beans as they are very basically cooked with not a lot of seasoning. They really just take the long cooking time with consistency out of cooking red beans.
That said, for home cooking I always cook dry red beans which Bluerunner has and I find them to be fantastic.
