At least at Chimes they will let you get 12oz pours for alot of their beers if you ask

Chimes also does flights of beers. Five 5oz pours for $10 or so of any of the beers on tap. I do this a lot, particularly with beers I haven't tried before or big beers that I know I don't want 13 or 20 ounces of. Just ask for the tap sampler sheet, write down the 5 beers you want, and enjoy.

Agreed, i don't think he should be fired. But it was a pretty rude thing to do.

I like CBD. There's not much atmosphere, but there's usually not a lot of people in the place, either. They probably make their ends meet with special events.

I've never had any troubles with CBD. Closest thing I've had to trouble there was when they had something in a small casks, when they poured the head was large so I got about 3/4s of a beer.. I didn't really care, it's a small cask item so I was going to leave it alone.. SO did not agree with that and wanted a top off on an expensive beer. So when I asked if he could top it off, bartender kinda looked at me funny and said , "no, I'm sorry, we don't have a lot of this" and then gave us some brewery stickers and a koozie to make up for it.

Again, MBP & I have been there multiple times and the majority of the bartenders have been knowledgeable and friendly. This one bartender was just rude and came off as a "Know it all".

I have mentioned a rude bartender to the owner/manager of establishments I frequent over the years. One complaint won't get someone fired - unless that employee has other issues. However, if the employee is habitually rude and won't change, then they SHOULD be fired.

This is a service industry, and craft taprooms, in general have the nicest and most patient clientele, and conversely, the bartenders seem to be the nicest and most knowledgeable, as a whole. The bartenders generally take time to explain beers to people and/or try to find out which beer on tap would best fit the customers style. I drink in a lot of taprooms, and I see how patient they are because invariably, a group comes in while I'm at the bar and 1 or 2 of them are craft newbies and the bartenders are giving them samples of 5 or 6 beers and trying to make sure that they are happy with their choice (so they will come back).

This is exacerbated in Portland because the tap lists are usually 100% rotating, so that newbie will find a beer they like and then come back and it won't be on tap anymore, so they have to go through the process all over again...

Are you sure they don't know one another and he wasn't just giving him shite for not coming in often enough? They are constantly trying to get new people in there; not scare them off for "not being regulars". If anything, they jokingly tell regulars they can't take part in special promotions that were done to get new people in the door

They're good people at CBD. I worked there temporarily, and they are all good people. I don't go often because I tend to want to go to more "date-like" places on my weekends off, but I've certainly never seen rudeness.

I already know which bartender it is because he is condescending in the best way Love the dude for it. But that is only to people he knows/feels comfortable with. I could see where it could unintentionally come out wrong or something though.

Yes I'm positive, and as I said earlier he did something similar to JBeam and myself.

I get having an edge or trying to be funny or whatever. But that day he was straight up rude.

Maybe it's a guy they got rid of. Just seems like it would clear stuff up considering everyone in there is nice along with the owner.

Was this very recent?
