Also, I think batch 4 was the best. Just enough malt flavor with just enough hop bitterness to match all of the awesome hop flavors. This one is almost too thin/clean/crisp. Weird critique I know. Helluva beer still.

I agree. Hitting the rack now.

iF THEY LOWERED THE pH to clear the beer, then that may have hurt the malt presence too. Basically they may have lowered their sugar extraction from the mash. Messing with pH sets off a chain of events that is tough to predict. Is this batch the same abv as batch 4? If it is, they may have gained back that sugar by using an adjunct such as corn sugar which ferments clean, tasteless and lowers the "body" of the beer.

That's exactly how I like my IPAs. Now I'm really looking forward to it.

3 places last night netted me 2 ghosts. Ghost hunting is hard work.

I am.

Ghost doesn't make its way to the westbank unfortunately. We are lacking a lot of things over here on the WB.

I thought whoever compared sos and goat was crazy. I was wrong. I can admit when I'm wrong. I'm a man. I'm 40.

That was me. I think this batch of Ghost compares favorably to SoS. And I'm not mad about that.

I find it weird that a lot of people don't like this batch as much as the last. They are certainly different. I like how the Simcoe notes shine through a bit more in this one. And I certainly like the clarity more in this batch.

I don't mind paying $12 for a 4pack.

While it would be awesome to see it drop to $9.99/4 pack, consider that Double Jack and Boulevard's new Calling DIPA (which isn't the same level as DJ or Ghost, but good) are $10.99-12.99 per 4... it's not really priced out of whack for a top-tier DIPA.

who makes SOS? Never heard of it until this thread. Is this batch of GITM really noticeably different than the last? I tasted the 3rd and 4th batches and to my memory they seems pretty similar to each other and both very very good.

Why are they messing with the recipe? it seems the last couple of batches were universally lauded.

If brewers don't mess with recipes, they never get better. The change was made because the haziness can definitely be considered a "flaw."

Feedback seems to be split on this one. Some people like the old one better, others like the new one better. Can't please everybody.
