Yeah, it's called the sizzling sound of your flesh if you're holding a mere dinner fork over a hot grill for that long. At least use a grill fork for flock sake.

I worked with some Mexicans that did this except with an onion. They swore by it.

I'm not Mexican, but I did this with the onion and the smell was great.
