It has to be a well seasoned burger if it's going to be on a flat top. What I find is that it's usually bland with a burned tasting "sear."

I can appreciate that. I've lately become a minimalist when it comes to burgers. I can't think of much better than a thin patty smashed into cast iron and seasoned with salt and pepper. Done right, and that's tough to beat IMO.

Do you find that like that, the meat's flavor is overwhelmed by the toppings? Or, are you just talking meat, cheese and maybe mayo?

I'm a meat and cheese guy, so I couldn't answer that for you. Sorry

Who makes them like you're talking about with cast iron. I'd give it a chance.

strawns - sliders. I have to eat two doubles just to get full
herbie k - decent patty, shitty bun
gullos - OMG FRESH PRODUCE. who gives a shite.
papa's - all they have is size
blind tiger - meh
Rollin in the dough - best bun by far, usually too much of a crisp on the patty
griffs - greasy. but solid

but yea, Shreveport is such a Mecca

They may be bar burgers, and I'm not sure I have ever had one sober, but Bottomline and Swamp a Room used to have a pretty tasty burger!

whatever happened to "Raul's" ? Never been there but seems like it was on everyone's list in the past.

I have like a mental tiering system for burgers in my head.

- You have the "high end fast food" like Five Guys and Mooyah.

- You have the local mom and pop joints with a greasy, well done burger on a sesame seed bun from a package. Often loaded with condiments and toppings.

- And you have the "craft" burgers on fancy buns, cooked to temp, using high quality ingredients.

All three of these tiers are good in their own way, and I'm not above any of them. Because for me, even a bad burger is still good.
But when it comes to ranking them, the craft burgers (fatty meat, cooked to med-rare, interesting cheeses, brioche buns, simple yet great toppings, little to no condiments, etc.) will always top my list.

Rauls fits the middle category. Patties being squished to death until well done, placed on a bunny bread type of bun, slathered with ketchup and mustard and mayo, American cheese, etc. I'll eat the hell out of it. But it doesn't surpass a legit burger.

Teddy Bear's in Bossier was a pretty good stop before the advent of the casino boats.

It's better than Dearman's, but doesn't belong on a top 10 of LA list.

Probably top 10 of BR though... at least in my opinion.
