Alright. That's reasonable. I read about 2 of your posts and wrote you off as somebody who was pissed at the COE for flooding out your corn crop in the morganza or something like that. I stand corrected.

If I owned farmland there then I'd be hacked off nonetheless. My limited knowledge of soil science is that the USACE opened the gates of Morganza in a manner that will cause maximum destruction.

As far as I know, the farmland was the least of their concerns. I'm pretty sure they were just worried about maintaining the integrity of all the flood control structures while allowing people the most time to get out of the way. I don't think they had the option to take preservation of the soil into account.

ETA: I said that last sentence wrong. They had a good bit of time, but I think that was pretty low on the priority list.

This is my understanding and I could be wrong. If so then someone will let me know.

When an area is flooded gradual inflow and draining is a benefit. When the water comes in all at once as in the activation of floodways it is detrimental to have it enter in a narrow sluice. That deposits sand on top of the topsoil.

My understanding of the activation of the Morganza Floodway is that the USACE opened it one gate at a time when they should have been opening all gates an inch at a time.

What you're saying makes sense, but I'm pretty sure they can't operate that structure in that manner.

As far as what happened down here, I don't think you'll hear very many people complain about how they handled it. I don't know anybody that farms in the floodway though. All my people farm in the hills.

Again I ask, what do you do for a living Tigah in ATL?
And again I don't answer you. What have you done to deserve a decent response from me?
