there are snakes in the everglades that get 18 feet long

not native. most are Burmese pythons or other exotics that have been released or escaped.

Looks like a taipan. Australia has them. Bad mofo's. Been known to chase people down and bite them multiple times. Get to 12-14 ft long and highly venomous.

Taipan from wiki

quote:

Although highly venomous, it is very shy and reclusive, and always prefers to escape from trouble (the word "fierce" from its other name is actually describing its venom but not temperament)

ETA: Also,

quote:

As of late 2003, all positively identified inland taipan bite victims have been herpetologists handling the snakes for study.

The longest snakes I have seen in La are what are commonly called chicken snakes and I have seen them as long as eight ft. I have seen plenty of rattlesnakes at six ft. I have heard of king snakes getting six ft or better just not seen them

Inland taipans aren't the same as regular taipans. Inland taipans are also called fierce snakes. The regular taipan has a reputation second only to the black mamaba for aggressivness.

As is the case even with a black mamba. But, when they do they have been known to bite multiple people and bite multiple times. Both snakes pop a hugely toxic wallop with large venom flows.

He said they chase people down. I just thought that was a little extreme.

When I was about 8 y/o my dad asked me to go see what hose was hanging down under his 18' refrigerated box truck he hauled seafood in. The hose turned out to be a a snake as big around as my arm and draped from one axle to the other with a little extra on each end. I swear the head was bigger than my fist. My dad identified it as a king snake but may have been wrong.

axle to axle on that truck is about 12 ft.

as far as OP that pic is fake IMHO

I found this pic on the Advocate website with many others. Don't know who took it but I hope they get this thing (if it's real) before it takes out some pets in the area!! Frightening and not impossible due to idiots releasing these types of snakes when they cant keep them as pets.
