Concerns over Giovanni Bernard?

Is anyone else concerned about Gio's pre season performance? He hasn't been effective at all and couldn't find any room last night. I drafted him as my RB2 in a PPR league yesterday and I'm a little worried at this point.

Not worried at all...its preseason

No, he will be fine. He's going to be invloved in the passing game. IMO the Bengals are going to be really good (I have them going to the SB). If he is your RB2 you are in great shape.

Id be more worried because Hill is waiting in the wings. The rest of the country doesnt realize how good Hill is. I think he's the best LSU RB since Faulk.
Cinci will be a RBCC but Hill will get the goal line totes. Gio is good for ppr only and i think Hill will be the RB to own in the cinci backfield by the end of the season.

Bold prediction. I like the Bengals this year, but can't go that far with it.

This is partly my thinking. I took him over DeMarco and just hope I don't regret it all damn year.

Hill has looked really good. Gio will lose carries eventually, id almsot bet it. But his pass catching will keep him relevant in PPR.

Herein lies the problem

Bernard has now played on 52-of-63 (82.5%) first-team snaps this preseason. But wildly inefficient: 20 carries, 49 yards (2.45 YPC).
I mean, it's just preseason, but is that a reason to suck this bad?

The Bengals have told us how they view Bernard in back-to-back years, and it isn't as a true feature back. They gave BenJarvus Green-Ellis 224 touches despite his ineffectiveness last season, and in the following offseason used a second-round pick on power back Jeremy Hill. Bernard has a reputation as an explosive playmaker, which can certainly be the case in limited doses. But he was an inefficient ball carrier as a rookie, averaging 4.09 YPC and 3.90 if you leave out his Week 9 highlight-reel 35-yard touchdown run against the Dolphins. Number Fire's @LateRoundQB recently suggested on this podcast that because everyone saw it on Thursday Night Football, that particular run has convinced the general public that Gio is better than he really is.
I like Bernard as a borderline RB1 in PPR leagues, but wouldn't draft him at his No. 16 overall Average Draft Position regardless of scoring format. And I'd definitely avoid him in non-PPR. He's going to get fewer carries than people expect, and it's only a matter of time before he begins losing short-yardage and goal-line work to Hill.
It also doesn't help that Bernard wore down as his workload piled up last year. Over his last four games -- playoffs included -- Bernard managed 120 yards on his final 51 rushing attempts (2.35 YPC) and just once broke a run longer than seven yards. Do people think Gio will become more efficient and sturdy on more carries? With Hill on board, I'm not sure the Bengals will even let us find out.
My advice? Avoid Bernard unless he falls deep into the third round, and draft Hill in the eighth or ninth.

It was in the bold NFL prediction thread
I have then playing the Lions.
If I am not thinking outside the box I'd go with Denver and NO.

This bit is what has me worried. Pre season or not.

Wow, really? Demarco should be a monster in PPR format this year.

I know it was a tough call but DeMarco's durability is what basically swung me to Gio.

You had an opportunity to get Demarco Murray as your #2 RB and passed?
Posted on 8/25/14 at 11:59 am to TigeRoots
I hope so. I grabbed Hill late to stash in case he takes over.

a bengals-lions Super Bowl means the world ends the next day

I made the same decision. I hope this doesn't bite me in the arse. I had them ranked back to back and I was concerned about Murray's durability, so I went with Bernard.

The only thing you should worry about is Jeremy Hill, he is the better player and will take a lot of carries away from him.

Wow. I ended up with Gio because I was trying to bid somebody up. Didn't really want him, but didn't feel too bad about it...until reading this thread. But I also drafter Vereen, so the other thread makes up for it, I guess.
