Did our forefathers know something about balance of power between the states, or is it an antiquated system no longer relevant in modern times?

I remember people whining and saying stuff along the lines of "the electoral college only benefits the dems" or some shite. People are idiots.

This. No one state should have more than say 20 votes.

Very relevant. One state (California) would overwhelm the will of a signidicant majority of states if only popular vote.

EC should be:

Statewide winner gets both Senate electors

Remaining electors are awarded based on winner of congressional district.

States still involved (moreso, in fact), but popular vote still important.

If Hillary wins the popular vote it's irrelevant to the argument about the Electoral College. If this past election were popular vote then Trump would have spent much more time in NY and Calif. He wouldn't have carried the states but would have garnered enough extra votes to win the popular.

I'd still like to see it split proportionally in some fashion, maybe just by CD like Maine and Nebraska.
3.8 million democrat votes in Texas were not represented.
3 million republican votes in California were not represented.
We can do better.

Knew something.

The needs of citizens out in the middle of nowhere matter.

You can't just ignore them to finance pandering to urban votes.

This is where I lean. Also "Bread and Circuses" was a contributing factor to the demise of the Roman Empire, that king of thinking scares the shite out of me. Our only hope is education of the electorate.

I just wonder if Hillary won the EC but lost popular vote, how many Trump supporters would want the EC gone. I think that is all this board would be talking about right now if that happened.

They were already winding up on that in the couple of days before the election.

They knew something. The EC is what keeps politicians from campaigning solely in the top 10 most populated states (which makes up around half the total population). If that were to happen, more and more legislation would favor those areas at the expense of others, very possibly setting up a situation where only a "favored son" from one of those areas could ever win.

After this election, I think it should be destroyed. The fact that I'm a Republican who lives in DC and will never have his vote heard regardless of how inept the Democractic President is is fricking insane. It's a shite show.
