We want to put our cable box and DVD player etc in the closet to remove sight of wires.
Cable box: don't they make some kind of sensor you can put on your tv and control the box? Or Is that direct tv or something?
Thanks for any help!

They made IR extenders specifically for that
ETA: didn't see the above answer

But doesn't your box have to have an IR port? Ours does not.

No. It basically duplicates the signal your remote sends out in your closet. The extender is all you need.

I have cox.. contour dvr box.. and all I needed was this..
You put one end on the front of your box that just sticks to it.. then put the receiver somewhere on the outside that you can aim your remote to..
it will need a power source, so you can either plug it in via usb input on your box.. or use the adapter plug in to go into a regular outlet.
Works great for me.. There is always a green light on though.. but that doesn't both me.. I have mine along side a mirror.. and the wire hides behind the mirror..
the other system linked is really nice and more fancy.. more wireless.. but just thought i'd share how i did it..
that's the new receiver.. i just point the remote in the general direction of it.. because it's so high.. i actually don't even need to point the remote at it..
and this is where i have the other part of the receiver attached to the contour dvr box..
I pulled the box out of hiding so I could show you where I attached the receiver.
again, just passing along so you can see where i attached mine on the box.. it won't work on just any area of the box.. what i had to do was place that receiver all around the box and keep trying to use my remote aimed at the other receiver until i saw it light up and work.. that's how i found the spot to put it..
hope that all makes sense.. sorry for all the talk. haha. good luck to you. if you can afford the other set linked i am sure that's better, but this will help you get an idea.
(p.s. yea, i know i need to dust that area, that's gross haha)

For the contour box, you should have only needed this:
monoprice ir extender
The box provides the power and no need to stick a transmitter to the front

RF remote and receiver is MUCH better than the IR extenders. Doesn't matter where you point the remote, it just works.

Ok I got the one in the link above. (SouljaBreauxTellEm)
Came in but a problem.
It's all one piece!
I would have to have the box in the vicinity of the TV. I want the box in a closet away from the living room.
So do I need a wireless one? Do they make those?
Help por favor
Saw the first link. $40 bucks it is

if it's that far away then yeah you need the wireless one.
can you get a refund?
any ways yeah just hook it up the same location though
i think 40 is about how much it will cost for the wireless one?

that one linked is also on amazon for the same price i believe. that's the monoprice.. which is usually a great brand but the reviews are hit and miss
this one has good reviews and should work the same. check the feedback for it, there is an actual video review you can watch as well.

they just seem like hit and miss. works great for some, not for others. just keep doing your research and maybe buy from someone you know you can return easily if needed. hope you figure it out.

that model version has been discontinued.. but the other links have the newer version i believe.. that should give you an idea how they work though.

The new Mini-boxes cox is giving out comes with one. Installed one for my Mom last night.
The Box is so small I taped it to the back of the TV.
