I am doing a simulation of trading stock throughout the semester for one of my classes. I was looking for advice of companies to invest in to begin with.
TIA

Hookers and blow. Run your report on the ROI for those
Maybe he'll like the creativity you show.

I like natural gas right now. CHK, ECA, XOM, DVN, SD.
I'm not saying go all out natural gas, but it has a few things that seem to be working for it including a seemingly colder winter than most recent years, the recent insertion of CNG for fleet vehicles. I would think at some point in the future CNG may be an option for the consumer.

Then pick anything, it really doesn't matter.

We did this a while back for a summer internship at a brokerage firm. It was through Investopedia and it had a 20 minute market delay (still does I believe).
Each group was partnered up with a stock broker and we were picking stuff he recommended etc.. Well we had live feed on the market. So we would pick a few stocks and just load up on them and within a few minutes if they didn't do well we would cancel the trades and try again.
They found out we were doing it and just stopped keeping track of the game. I think our portfolio ended up like 560% in a couple months.

Uhh why wouldn't you just load up on any stock that shot up in live trading? Since your dummy acct was on a 20 minute delay this should have been pretty easy?

Since it is a simulation why not focus on stock related to 3D Printing. I think SSYS is one. Might be fun to explore.

DDD is another 3d printing stock. Pretty cool idea but I feel the stocks are over sold. Huge run up lately

I'm looking at XLP (an ETF), and these mutual funds: PTTDX, VHDYX, SXFIX, PAUIX, SMVLX.
You could look at the top 2 stock holdings of each of the above and come up with a portfolio (some of the above, however may be bonds).
For instance, the ETF above has P & G and Coke as the 2 at the top, according to MSNmoney.

I've made some money with TQQQ
It's a pretty aggressive Nasdaq based ETF
If AAPL wasn't dragging the Nasdaq I would have made a lot more money but I'm not complaining.

What gas? The gas players are all trying to get heavy into oil and gas liquids.
