Privacy? Okay guys.

Fain your moral outrage somewhere else.

That ship has sailed long ago.

Right now Google and Facebbok sell ads based on their internal data that they share with ad buyers.
AFAIK neither shares your data with advertisers, as it would be pretty silly to divulge such valuable data. Instead, they use the data to target ads on behalf of advertisers. Your ISP can't profit from your data this way. They would have to inject ads into web pages for other sites (this would be very bad), or they could share/sell the data to advertisers and/or the government.

Also, we don't have to use Google or Facebook. There are alternatives, and new competitors can enter the market cheaply and quickly. Often we only have one or two choices of ISP, and new competitors must make huge investments, if the local laws even allow it.

Also, Google and Facebook only know what you do when you use their services. Your ISP knows everywhere you go, unless you are savvy enough to avoid it. But it seems inevitable that the Repubs will allow them to block us from doing that, too.

actually since trump considers himself an outsider, he should veto this

i think it would be a brilliant move and itd go a long way to win over a lot of ppl

no one in their right mind would support such a pathetic rule

We need more of this. Free market will prevail either way.
Have any of you considered what endgame free market capitalism will look like?

Depends on which market. Obviously where natural monopolies or public goods exist, the free market isn't completely ideal.

We shouldn't think of it has "free market or anti-free market", we should consider the market for every good (or broad category of good) separately, and analyze whether the market is the most ideal way to move forward.

For most goods, the free market works better than any alternative.

For some goods and services, a free market has obvious shortcomings.

The end game of free market capitalism depends on the actual good/service involved in that market.

Disgusting, and lays at the feet of Republicans. Can the party say with a straight face they are for protecting our rights? Money in politics screws us over, always. It's amazing how screwed we can get by a handful of greedy fricks.

It's time for another Revolution. We saw he desire during the lectionaries but it doesn't seem like Trump wants to drain the whole damned thing. Rand Paul should have been our president and the US is so much worse off because he's not.

Hey, you're making sense.

Uh huh.

Yep

Yep again.

So what do you think the endgame of free market capitalism looks like in the ISP market? The high cost of infrastructure, as well as the generally undesirable nature of duplicate infrastructure, it lends itself to natural monopolies, doesn't it? My only real hope here is that multiple players will get into the LEO/MEO satellite internet game. But, again, as we see with SiriusXM, monopolies are almost inevitable here, too. It just makes business sense.

There is no free market in this country. There has never been one nor will there ever be one.

Looks like a website has already been created to crowdsource funding to purchase the internet history of the Representatives that voted for this - LINK

Given the vote totals thus far, it appears Marsha Blackburn will be the first to be exposed.

You may have given up, but many of us will not. This is still one of the most free nations in the world, as bad as it is.
