From an HR standpoint, I have an employee that is still basically a new hire. He is is on benefits from a self inflicted on the job injury and is currently receiving benefits. If His negligence is proven, I can deny his current and future claims. I think I'm going to call the guy in legal and see if we can't make both of our lives easier over lunch.

If the DA really wanted to charge the trooper, he could issue a bill of information for negligent homicide with the stroke of his pen. A grand jury indictment is only required if the charge carries a life sentence or the death penalty, and NH does not.

Instead, he will do what DAs often do in politically sensitive cases--let a grand jury decide whether to charge him.

The grand jury proceeding is secret, and only the DA has input. If he wants, he can put on a half-arse case so the grand jury is less likely to find cause to indict.

Then the DA issues a press release that says the grand jury has spoken: no charge will be made. Takes the heat off of him.

This procedure if often used when a politician or other connected person does something as minor as DWI or domestic abuse. In an ordinary case, there would never be a grand jury. Joe Citizen would be billed in an instant.

The DA's response to such criticisms is often that he went to the grand jury to "take politics out of it." But since the proceedings are secret, we don't really know if he did.

I yelled at a JPSO going over 50mph down a residental the other day. never an excuse to go that fast, esp out of their jurisdiction.

Oh I yelled, I don't know if he heard me.

He was technically in Kenner. He was going fast as hell, more than double the 20mph limit. Someone opens a door, someone steps out, you can't stop.
A long time ago as a teen I worked at a Gas station by Lafreneire park. My manager a guy named Brian Budde was driving in his neighborhood and was hit by a cop going over the limit and he died.

I am sure there are times when it is needed, emergencies and all. But it does get abused.

Then at other times I see the officer on the I-10 doing 60 and no ones dares pass him.

Wait a second. One cotton picking second. There was a thread earlier this week about a cop who was responding to a burglar alarm at night and ended up crashing his vehicle. I recall several people giving the policeman the benefit of the doubt, well, because he is a policeman and policemen always follow the rules of the road . This story does not jive.

One was responding to a call, this guy was speeding just because he thought he could. I'm not surprised you can't understand this, though. I know it's complex.

No reason for it to go to Grand Jury.

It sounds like going that fast might be against the law.

Baw deserves jail for life. Let the record show we don't like cops that break the law. But the cops that shot Alton Sterling were completely in the right, Gravy baby

It probably wasn't the case, but sometimes they do this without lights to try and quickly sneak up on someone's house. However, you're right that it's very dangerous.
