Fansided doesn't like Pels moves...

Loser: New Orleans Pelicans
When a bunch of teams have plenty of money to spend, there is always that one team that makes rather perplexing decisions on what to do with their money. The New Orleans Pelicans were one of those teams on the first day of free agency.
The first thing they did on Friday, was give $52 million to Solomon Hill and followed it up with giving $34 million to E’Twaun Moore. Both of those players are hard workers and fine enough, but neither are worth a combined $86 million, new market or not.
To put it in perspective, the Pelicans spent $86 million on two guys who combined to barely score over 11 points a game last year.
Yes, they’re hard workers and should be good additions to the Pelicans roster, but neither of these guys are moving the needle one iota in the Western Conference. For $86 million, a team better get players that can move the needle.
When the time comes for the next CBA and owners want an amnesty provision, these are going to be a couple of deals that are looked back upon that led to a bailout. Four points a game gets a player $52 million now.
Frick the pundits and naysaysers... Might be the best offseason since the Pels have moved to New Orleans from Charlotte. One more major move from a surefire Top 6 seed. Stay tuned.

We needed perimeter defenders and someone to replace EGs scoring. We got 2 defenders and drafted the best scorer in the draft. I'd QPON is healthy this could be a solid team defensively.
Did we overpay? Probably but the market dictated it and these were 2 players we targeted.

Reads like a really lazy, really superficial piece of commentary.
I honestly can accept a number of criticisms to our moves. I worry about several myself. However what is written here pretty much misses the mark IMO.

Same outlet would have criticized the front office for sitting still. They made moves to stabilize the roster and instill a defensive mindset with hopes it transitions into a winning culture. Baby steps. We can't all fall into Kevin Durant.

I like the moves we've made. I'd like them a LOT more if we were in the East, but they're still the correct moves.
We need to be able to take at least ONE stab at a big-name player before we're on the brink of AD leaving - but we have a few years to make that happen.

That is lazy reporting that only looks at ppg. It's half of it, if those two combine for 10 points but only give up 8 to guys they defend, it's a positive ain't it?
While guys like eg/ryno combine for 30 but get scored on for like 36

An article that uses the wrong salary numbers, and points per game as a useful stat. I'm with Bronco. I take no issue with someone questioning what is an obvious risk by the Pels. But good lord does this just make the writer look unintelligent IMO.

I'd like to know who we were competing against for them and what other offers they got. If we were the only bidder, then it looks like too much. But if we just bumped their best offer by 10-20%, then it doesn't look as bad. I'd just hate to overspend if we were the only ones after them (ala Asik).
I like our 3 pick-ups, but we still didn't fill our biggest need, speed and athleticism, especially on the wing. Maybe they will focus on that next offseason. But we need some high end finishers..

Well, it's been reported (possibly just speculation I don't remember exactly) that Moore was offered what the Bulls could pay without having to use cap space, which is 4 years 28 mil.
There were also reports that Hill had a few suitors that offered 8 figures on a per year basis. One team went to reach out to Hill at midnight and he was already in talks with another team. If he was getting multiple midnight calls, then there was obviously some market for him.

Most intelligent observers have really liked the fit for all of the guys, with maybe Hill being a slight overpay. When I say "intelligent," I mean the ones that are not using PPG as the sole indicator of worth.
