Walmart gift cards on Ebay are selling for more than they are worth. WTF is that about?
$50 card for $59
$100 card for $113
Lots of these for sale. What am I missing here? Is this getting rid of other gift cards?

couple of reasons-

1) money laundering
2) you have a 20% ebay coupon
3) using a stolen credit card number

Money laundering would make them cheaper, no?

I'm guessing it's so that you can churn sign up offers.

Buy cards on eBay, collect sign up bonus, sell cards on EBay.

Reselling in general is a MS method some employ.

Also a lot of people who want to buy stuff online and don't have a method of payment that wm takes, but have paypal will buy these and then shop at wm. PP isn't a bank so much easier to have than a checking account.

Also I know it is hard to believe - but some people are just lazy and instead of going to the store to buy a GC, they'll just buy it online.

Most of the times it actually comes out to be cheaper to buy the GC online at eBay if you can stack a few offers. eBay bucks + shopping portal etc + Coupon codes etc.

I would generally stay away from trying to sell GCs on ebay. A lot of times people will empty them and say you sent them an empty GC. Or they'll just say they never received it, and eBay will claw back your money. Its just a hassle that you don't want to be a part of.

As far as re-sell to MS goes - most people want to deal with volume. w/o re-sell its easy to run up low 6 figs of spend in a year. So gotta weigh up volume against that. Someone who wants that kinda volume would probably not want to deal with the headache of GC scammers on eBay.

That said if anyone wants to buy big amounts of WM GCs at a 5-8% discount, in a face to face txn let me know

buyer not seller is taking the discount-

Got 20K can't bank, gift cards are good as cash. Show up at Target tyring to buy 20k in gift cards will have a camera on you.
They need a seller that will take money orders for payment. The buyers don't even want the gift cards, they want the codes on the gift cards emailed to them.

You are able to laundry money at least 90 cents on the dollar, and their is no physical evidence.

How do you pay with MO on eBay?

You can't sell electronic codes on eBay unless you are PayPal.

Only way I can think it can be used to launder money is by buying GCs and then selling them. All you are losing is the spread between eBay's comish and your stacked discounts (btw, of which I'm certain I can do better than 90c/$1).

Again - since eBay limits the total $ value of GCs you can list at a time and the # of GCs, I don't think it is too attractive for money launderers due to lack of scaleability.

Really - the only perps that this benefits is the petty criminals that use stolen CCs to buy these GCs. Apart from that its just regular people buying these.

Check out ebays gc policy again - no e gcs. Ofcourse, you could break that rule and email someone that gc code but with that you lose all eBay protection on either end.

Also, MO payments are restricted to certain cats. GCs aren't one of them.
