I'm about to pick up a few new reels and have a dilemma. I'm going to pick up a couple shimano symetres and need to choose size.

Would a 1000 size shimano symetre on a 6'6" Light or Medium Light rod be sufficient for largemouth bass fishing? Mostly 2-4 pound fish with a possible chance at a rare 8-10 pounder. My other choice would be the 2500 version.

TY

The 2500 is better for all around fishing including what you're going to be doing. Better Retrieve ratio and holds more line . Nice reels but I've switched all my clients to Pflueger Presidents with great long term success. Good luck

I would go 2500

I use a 1000 for spotted bass <2lb. It does a great job for that. i would want the 2500 for largemouth.

Also... Shimano or bust

I would use a openface reel, like a Calcutta 400.

Pflueger Presidents
I've had two for a few years now and use them multiple times a month with consistent exposure to saltwater on the kayak. Been great so far.

Go with the 2500 for sure. Why not upgrade to Daiwa, much more bang for the buck and better spinning reels. Compare the Daiwa reel that is the same money as the symmetry which isn't a very good reel. You'll get more bearings and much better drag. Legalis, or
Exceller. Good luck.

Also have a couple of presidents and for the money they are nice.

Size is definitely 2500

I have an older gen of the 1000 Symetre and I love it. However i actually was in the market to get another last year and was not as impressed with the latest offerings. My older Shimano was MUCH more reel than the newer models. Believe I wound up getting a Quantum they had on a ridiculous sale which I absolutely love for ultralight/light bass fishing, but may be overmatched with larger fish.
Heard nothing but good about the Pfleugers so I think if it were e I'd have to give their 2500 series a serious look.

Hmmm. . . just picked up a couple and haven't used them much yet, but all my other reels are Saharas and their performance has been superb over the last 3 years I have used them. I can only imagine the Symetre's will be even better.

thanks for the advice everyone i got busy and couldn't respond yesterday.

I'm a shimano guy just b/c i've never had issues with their products and have had good customer service as well. Also have a 50% discount on Shimano stuff right now so I'm gonna stick with them for now. I have a few curados, some saharas and a symetre already. Mostly 3000s for trout fishing. This'll be the first freshwater largemouth setup i've purchased in awhile AND wanted something a little smaller.

Gonna go with the 2500. Thanks for the help everyone.

The 2500 and 3000 series are the same sized reel, only difference is the spool on the 3000 holds a little more line. If you have 3000's already, you could just get a 2500 series spool and switch when needed.

To really get a smaller reel than what you currently have, you would need to go with the 1000
