anybody drop shot with baitcaster equipment?

gonna give it a try. set up: 7 ft GLoomis glx, quantum accurist 7:1, 30 lb. power pro braid, 15 lb. flouorocarbon leader. plan to use brush hogs, beavers, flukes, craw critters, etc.

just can't go the spinning reel/light line route.

Why?

It's a finesse type of fishing, not worm fishing. 30lbs power pro will likely lead to fewer fish.

just not a finesse guy. 30 lb braid is like 8 lb. mono.

trying it more out of curiosity than anything else. there are some youtube videos about it.

I usually do it with spinning gear, but I have played around with, and caught some on bait cast gear with 12lb. Flouro. Aaron Martens nearly won the Classic in 2009 on the red river with a drop shot in McDade.

I think it's not uncommon to do what you're doing. It's just another way to present your bait. The biggest dropshot hook I have is 5/0 and I'll use that for big lizards.

Add enough weight and shorten the tag line and you have a form of punch bait.

It's called "power-shot" or "bubba-shot" when you beef up the gear, and I do it all the time. I use it in a horizontal presentation more like a carolina rig than in the traditional vertical presentation of a normal drop-shot. The advantages over a c-rig are that the bait never sinks all the way to the bottom and you can leave it in one spot (on a bed or next to structure) and keep the bait in the strike zone longer but still give it plenty of action by just twitching your rod tip. It's also very effective when fish are sitting on top of grass beds in deeper water. You can set the drop of the weight to the thickness of the grass and have your bait just skimming along on top of the grass.

I've been basically doing it with an inline stopper 2/0 off set shank and an egg sinker

Anyone ever used a drop shot for trout or redfish? Never considered it before for saltwater but it's got me thinking...
