The river is 160ft deep at Algiers Point.

Christ I ran that river from 1980-2003 from Venice Marina to Port Eads and my arse hit a mud flat or a sand bar nearly every time. Mostly when I was running in the fog though and drinking.

I've been to two eat clubs but both before Katrina. Vincent's and Pampos. I had a chow number years ago too but can't remember the number. It's a good time and as nik said depends on the restaurant for price but he tells you that going in. Also he has always brought several bottles of his own wine and always shares.

He's not near the douche (although he can be) that he is made out to be. He's quirky, a dick, confrontational, nerdy and really pretty funny sometimes if you just take it with a grain of salt. Do an eat club and he's very personable and genuinely happy you have joined him.

And he is very in tune with what's going on, being said about him and whatnot. A lot is generated by him because his livelihood depends on it. (you call that living?)He sells his own advertising and that is how me makes his money. I tip my hat to the guy (warts and all) for doing something many of us on this board would enjoy doing if we could make a good living at.

As irrelevant as a lot of people here want him to be we are on page 4 of a week old thread discussing his attitude towards "poor boy" and in a month we will discuss his turkey brine in depth.

No publicity is bad publicity. Just ask Charlie Sheen.

Did an eat club a couple of years ago. Tom is quite charming IRL, spends a good bit of time at every table.

I have heard him talk about years past that he would spend a weekend in a hotel room watching the Jerry Lewis telethon. And enjoyed it and did it year after year. I listen, but he is a little off.

I will start it back up on Monday. By the way, my mother in law gave me his cookbook as a Christmas present

So you have the app on your phone?

You really like Tom. I thought it was a joke. But you really like this baw.

I grew up listening to Tom, when I was in high school, and thought he had the coolest job then.
He really is a New Orleans institution.

I've got it and it's set on 3WWL. I just haven't listened in awhile. What's his time slot these days? 4-6? Is it the same on the app? I'm challenged.

I've listened on and off for years. He's a snob often enough....gave me crap, and seemed serious, the one time I called in, years ago. I still go by "Tommy" and he said he dropped Tommy when he was 18 or whatever.

My mom got his newsletters all through the 70s and 80s until he stopped mailing them. I think it's great that he's had this kind of longevity, almost 40 years in the radio business, doing what he loves, and let's face it, we love it, too. Yeah I know most of you don't, but a radio food show that's actually engaging that we still pay attention to.

When did you call in? What was your question?

Oh heck, at LEAST fifteen years ago, if not more.
Never had a reason to call before. I don't really drink, and what little I do didn't start until I hit 30 and began enjoying cigars.

Friend gave me a bottle of California Port for Christmas, so I called asking for recommendations on how to enjoy it. He hit all the stereotypical notes about Port: he doesn't touch the stuff, only good in front of a roaring fire with a stinky cigar.

It, honestly, wasn't all that helpful.
