Using a Loop Know will allow you to catch more fish...

What's the OB's take on this??? Makes sense to me...

As its name implies, the loop knot leaves a loop at its connection with the eye of the lure. The knot cinches down before ever contacting the eye.
"(A loop knot) allows the bait to freely move and swim the correct way," Thomason said. "If not, your bait will want to go straight instead of walking the dog back and forth."

I use a weird triple uni that a guide taught me when I was little, leaves a loop that you can slide back open when the loop shuts on hook sets- it works.

I use a loop on all of my lure connecting knots. Had a conversation with a mech. engineer while fishing a few years back, talking about the stresses that are put on the line at a given point.
We were discussing if you tie a typical cinch or improved cinch, you are already applying stress to the line right around the lure eye from tightening the knot. He was talking about how if you put a loop knot on your line is not be stressed around the eye prior to the fish being on.
Thus we figured if you already have stress on the line right around the eye then it would require less stress from the fish to snap the line. Whether it holds any merit I have no idea, thought it made a little sense though.

you are saying there is stress on the line when you tighten down the knot on the eye and not when you tighten the knot down on just the line. i think yall are thinking about it way too much. This guys reasoning is sound with it giving the bait a more free movement but stress on the line? give me a break

Every time I tie a loop knot, I've left with a huge loop. I feel like the knot is a little too noticable on the bait.

Rapala advocates using this knot for it's lures. Supposed to give the artificial bait full movement. I always have trouble trying to tie a loop knot though.

This seems kinda crazy to me and he's over thinking it. I tie a regular palomar knot on all my hooks/lures. Never noticed that the top dog doesn't properly "walk".

How do you get the loop of the Palomar around the Top Dog? Mirrolure Knot
This is a lot faster and easier to tie.
