Both won national championships and were terrific recruiters as assistants, and then became head coaches at lower-tier colleges and completely turned it around. Both have done fantastic jobs this season and should be looked at.

It seems to me that C-USA and sunbelt coaches are only desired if they are perceived to be "miracle workers". It's not hard to win at Marshall - recruit any qualified player and plenty of cake majors, solid attendance at that level. I think that's how they look at ULL these days and haven't touched Hudspeth.
They may be missing out as both are very good.

I could be wrong but I think a lot of Marshall fans were unhappy with Doc heading into this season. They did make it to the CUSA title game so his situation may have improved.

Jim McElwain did have a stint as an assistant at Louisville. But I think he's pretty committed to building Colorado State. He could have them at the top of the Mountain West soon.

Not enough years or not enough consistent years to determine if they are flukes.

You get some breaks with it being a smaller school, but you have to show an upward trend. They both replicate their records or improve from this past season, they'll certainly get more talk.

I don't see how you can look at Hudspeth any other way than as a miracle worker. What he's done is literally unprecedented.

However, I think he would still need th right circumstances to be successful on a higher level. He's coached in AL, LA, and MS and has great JUCO contacts. He also does okay with recruiting in Florida.

Moo U fans wanted to fire Doc before the season started and he will only has a 27-24 record as a head coach. He also cost his team a victory at VT this season with several coaching blunders.
