Anthony Davis is a golden god.

The Pellies are a mystery at 3-4 — just about average on both ends, despite a world of issues. Jrue Holiday has shot poorly and gotten to the line less, Ryan Anderson is hurt (turning the Pellies into the Grizzlies from deep), and though Eric Gordon is attacking the rim like mad, he's still trying to find his killer shooting touch and pick-and-roll chops. Tyreke Evans has been worse than uneven, and Monty Williams has played his three perimeter stars together for only 41 minutes total on the season. The pack-the-paint defense is a work in progress that has yielded a ton of 3s.

But in Davis, this team has a guy who should emerge in some season not too far off as one of the half-dozen best players in the league. And that is probably pessimistic. The dude's arms are so long, it's like having a sixth defender on the floor.

The new camera system had Lebron showing up as a ghost he moved so fast. I wonder if AD has any supernatural effect on camera.

Did anyone else hear this Sunday night. I agree with Lowe, they need to let it go.

That's why I want him to stop saying Pellies before it catches on

Too late, the national writers have already latched on to it. The only thing that may stop it is if Pierre held a sign saying he'd kill anyone that said Pellies. Journalists seem pretty scared of him.

Jrue, Gordon and even Evans have been working their asses off on the defensive perimeter. They've been over-playing if anything, which can lead to drives and kicks.

I also don't even agree with the notion that we play a "pack the paint" defense that gives up a lot of 3s because we dare teams to take them.

eta: Looking at the defensive numbers, we're almost exactly middle of the pack in all categories; 3s attempted against, made against, and percentage.

Definitely agree that the perimeter defense has been better. No complaints about those guys on defense.

Pack the paint, I believe, comes from Monty telling Lowe this last season.

As for the numbers, they give up the 3rd most corner 3s per game (7.2). That isnt good enough

Is it me (I'm too lazy to look up the actual percentages or attempts, etc) but have the Pels been victims of teams just shooting lights out on at least a couple of nights?

Zach Lowe cursed the team with the Pellies nickname which in turn is the result of the slow start.

I haven't confirmed this, but I feel like forwards who shoot from distance, guards who shoot near or at the rim really do damage against the Pelicans.

If that bears out, it would explain the lights out thing (see Bledsoe's numbers) and could be attributable to defensive lapses due to some combination of scheme, talent, and adjustments.
