Aminu gonna Aminu

Displaying an all-around versatility that has him contributing in numerous areas, Al-Farouq Aminu helped lead the Nigeria men’s basketball team to a 3-0 record in the preliminary round of the FIBA Africa championships. The New Orleans Pelicans small forward is averaging 14.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists for Nigeria,
...A two-year member of New Orleans, Aminu is shooting 62 percent from two-point range at FIBA Africa, but his overall percentage has been diminished by 1-of-11 accuracy from the three-point arc. He’s at 72 percent from the foul line on 18 attempts.

I think he'll be more productive this year because the Pelicans should play a style that suits him better, but anyone still holding out hope that he'd develop a 3...maybe next offseason.

Hell, I'm not even holding out hope that he can develop a somewhat consistent mid-range jumper.

I'm holding out hope that he stops attempting 3's.

He's an inverse Bruce Bowen.
The assist totals are impressive to me for a couple of reasons: Aminu has shown almost no ball skills so far in the NBA and FIBA is stingy in giving out assists.
Even though it's weak competition, getting 5 per game is impressive. With just a little bit of a floor game, he can offset his lack of range.

He's almost eclipsed his attempt total from last year.
He's only shooting it that much because of the team and level of competition. Watching them last year, in their run to the olympics and in the London games, he was their creator/"oh shite, 5 seconds left on the shot clock, dump it to Chief". Lets just be extremely happy that is not his role on this team.

If Aminu can improve on consistency and improve his mid range jumper to shoot at least 40%, then the pelicans can get the fifth seed.. However, if he improves to much we lose him because we won't have the cap space to give him more money since he only signed a one year deal.

Don't think that Aminu is going to make or break this team... It's a position of need right now, but as long as he can continue to improve on grabbing boards and stretching the floor with that ever-present lob threat, his jumper isn't going to be something we're relying on too heavily. Hell, we improved with that mid-range shot at the 5 in Smith and Steimsma over Lopez.

improves too much
Yeah, that should be a worry of ours...
