Early: 1-4

Mid: 5-8

Late: 9-12

I've won my league in 2011 with last pick, made the playoffs last year with 10th pick.

Had 5th 3 years ago and did not make playoffs. Don't remember the 5 years before that.

I'm leaning towards liking late picks

Nah.

It's always a random draw (unless you're in a keeper/dynasty) to determine the draft order for leagues who have a set draft order. Auction leagues allow everyone to make a play on anyone they want in their first few picks.

Take the randomness out of it.

The only thing left would be luck/bad luck of the schedule, but that is what it is unless you use the top half/bottom half win/loss setup.

Really shouldn't because if you draft BPA and hit on your later round sleepers you should make the playoffs regardless of what spot you draft. After that, it's all luck.

I like middle because there's less picks in between yours so when guys are falling u have a good chance to get good value picks. I hate picking at the ends having to wait 20 picks while a good value player is dropping. More often u have to reach for guys early to make sure you have your positions covered.

It would be interesting to see anyone has published research on which pick has won leagues most frequently.

All we would need is a couple hundred recorded leagues with 12 active owners to see which spot is the best.

They've actually done studies and your team scores more points as you move down the draft order.

So 1st will score like 35 more points than 12th if you draft the best available under a certain set of projections.

100% this.

Otherwise, 3/4 or 11/12.

Same here. I hate having my eye on someone but feeling like I have to pick him 7 or 8 spots too early because I don't have another pick until 20 spots later.

The only time I want a top pick is if there is a truly elite talent at the top like back when Chris Johnson was dominating.
