Removed regulator on propane line, now flame blows out

Alright OB, my step FIL removed the regulator on the line from my propane tank as a "favor." In its place he installed a 600psi needle valve from an O&G site. He swears by this set-up, but I'm having a problem: my flame keeps blowing itself out! Is there anything I can do to fix this other than replacing the regulator?
Here is a picture of the burner:

Too much pressure for that burner. Get a new burner or replace the regulator. Or close the needle valve then slowly start opening.

Replace the regulator.
Ohh, before I forget, your FIL is dangerous.

He's a little throwed off. Crazy bastard from Jennings. Good man, but leaves me shaking my head often times.

This is what I do right now, but it always blows out.

Yeah, FIL should not be trusted. Get a good high pressure regulator.

Maybe your FIL is trying to remove you

Hah, doubt it. I've seen him use the same set-up on his burner and it works fine. Just not sure why mine is being over powered. May be my burner can't handle it.

With a bigger burner it may work. Don't know why anyone would remove a regulator. A good adjustable one is the ticket.

FIL is obviously trying to kill you.

This is why. The burner came with a 10psi regulator on it, non-adjustable.

Go get a good adjustable one. Or put the needle valve after the regulator.

Most decent high pressure regulators are adjustable:

Get a high pressure adjustable one like the one Jester posted. We have one like that and it creates a great jet flame.

That's what he needs. Most of the cheaper burners come with a cheap non adjustable one. I normally throw them away and use an adjustable that stays with the bottle.

Anywhere I can get one of those around town? I'm in Shreveport, not asking for specific stores obviously, just curious what type of places might carry it.

A lot of mom and pop type hardware stores have them (especially if they refill propane tanks). Home Depot and Lowes should, too. I'm in BR, so I can't help you with specifics.
