I've been a long time customer of directv, but I've never had access to u-verse. I am about to move and u-verse is available at the new house. so... anyone have experience with both?

DTV may have high customer support ratings, but I don't like dealing with them. The installers are crappy and they have no problem sending out old equipment when much newer things are available. I plan to have a whole home dvr setup with about 6-7 TVs

I have been with Direct TV for about 6 months. I had Uverse for 3 years before. I prefer Direct TV.

UVerse. Outside of purely saving money, I don't think the 2 services are even comparable.

The addition of the wireless receiver is what seals the deal for me. Can move the cable box outside, have no wires run through the house...

Uverse constantly jmped the price on me. I was able to lock into a better price with Direct TV for a longer period. Uverse has separate channels for HD viewing. That is not a big deal, but it is more shite to try to keep up with.

The Genie on Direct allows for more simultaneous recording. I also like the TiVo interface on Direct TV better than the system Uverse uses.

Have had both. U-Verse by miles. If I could get it, I would.

I had Uverse for 3 years and just dumped it for DTV. I was having to constantly reboot the boxes because the picture would lock up or I would get messages like "pausing live tv is not available at this time". It takes the boxes like 15 minutes to come back online when you reboot them too.

That is typically only when you have the max amount of HD recordings going on. Anyway, I am sure some have had issues. I have had almost no issues in 2+ years with UVerse.

their price is great for the first 12 months. It will jump a good bit after.

were your boxes 3 years old and did they refuse to replace them? I've had similar issues with directv. once you fill up the storage, the DVRs can get sluggish.

I have to reboot my DTV HD-DVRs about every other week. They take about 12 minutes to come back online.

Yes, but DVR was not even half full. I just found all the services to not work half the time or be extremely slow. The other thing that drove me bananas was when I would go to change the channel to say 1602. I would press 1-6-0-2 but it would only register 1-6-0 so I would press 2 again and it would change the channel to channel 2.

never had DTV personally, but i will say coming from Charter Communications to U-verse - best decision i have made.

been on for a few months, and have only had 1 service interruption - and it was for about 20 minutes as something was rebooted - aside from that no issues.

I had DirecTV for about 10 years, moved into a new house 2 years ago and decided to try Uverse.

I like Uverse much better. It's more economical, they run great deals as well on premium channels for those below the u450 package. Service has been great and besides weekly and monthly emergency broadcast tests on 4 receivers, it works great.

DirecTV continually sends me mailings offering huge price reductions and cash back to return to them. I have been too satisfied with uverse to switch back.

I have had both in recent years.

Was forced into COX all of college because I lived in apartments and could never get DirectTV, and UVerse wasn't out yet.

Moved into a place after college that offered UVerse in the area. I started to worship Uverse because of how quick it was and how simple it looked. I loved pretty much all the features. And it was cheap for all the stuff you got.

Moved into my own house and they didn't offer UVerse so had to go with DirectTV. Got the Red Zone package for free this past year, so that was awesome. Also I get great deals on stuff offered all the time, and if you refer people, you get $50 bucks off your bill (or maybe more).

For the cost and good product, DirectTV is a safe bet. But if Uverse was offered in my neighborhood, I would probably switch back just for the wireless box. That might sell me if I were you.

Did I mention COX is horrible?

I've had both and loved Uverse. I will say this though, the picture on DTV is better.
Uverse had some small things that i wish DTV had. When scrolling though the channels, what was playing would show up instead of a picture of the show. Scrolling while watching something without using the guide was better. Just small things like that Uverse does better

Well put.

I will also say that I don't like that you can't watch DVR of two different shows in different rooms. Not sure if you can on UVerse. It gives me the circle symbol with a line through it and doesn't let me access two recordings at once.

interesting, i haven't tried to do this yet.
Also when switching the channel, it goes directly to the channel with 0 black screen/hesitation.
Alot of the Uverse feature or kind of hard to explain, but the little things that they do are pretty cool when compared to other companies, but as i mentioned, i find the picture on Direct to be better. I noticed this when i was watching The Raid the other night.

DirecTV by a mile

Better HD
He channels aren't separate like Uverse
Better dvr

FYI the new genie just came out last week. Called a HR44. Ask for it. 3x faster than old genie and has a new remote

Records 5 shows at once. Also DirecTVs wireless receivers are coming out in a couple of months so you can always upgrade
