Don't recall if you said you have been before or often, but most wouldn't order a fish of the day when dining at a nicer place. IMO
Nothing particularly wrong with that, but hard to be surprised it wasn't a homerun.
My last experience at Coquette wasn't amazing either, but the good experiences have far outweighed the bad.
Glad to hear they're still putting out good food. I haven't been in 2-3 chef's, and need to get over there soon.

My point was that I normally don't do this, but the entrees on this particular night didn't really seem to hit a cord. And I agree, it would be hard to be blown away by this dish. But my point remains, it just wasn't good.

I think it was either flounder of snapper. It was about a month or so ago, so my recolection is a bit fuzzy. The reason I said this is because I never order catfish or drum/redfish at a place like Coquette.

You come after me like I am some joe blow who eats out at Applebee's on the reg. I was just giving my opinion on this place based off of my first experience. Again, I wasn't a huge fan of the menu the night I went, and that played a big part in the way I ordered.

Go back. It is simply one of the best restaurants in the city. Maybe you got a bad night, I don't know. But I can tell you that it is consistently wonderful, so I would give it another go.
My advice would be whatever DOESN'T strike a cord with you...order that.
And you can always try their lunch instead. 3 courses, 20 bucks. Minimizes your bill and you get to try a few things. We go on a Saturday about once a month for it. And their cocktails are awesome.

I don't think there's anything wrong with what you ordered FWIW. I love fish and frequently order fresh fish of the day offerings. I'd expect a fish dish at Coquette to be very good.

Same here. Usually get a bunch of apps for dinner. Last time I was there I didn't even order an entree. Boudin balls, heart tartar, etc etc.

No you did not, but to just say I ordered poorly pissed me off. The way I ordered was more a product of the night's menu. There really wasn't that great of a selection. In my opinion of course.
I just don't think people getting on my food selection have a case here, because they were not dinning there that night. Just like I can't say the place is overrated based on one meal there. Next time I hope to do the 7 course blind tasting to really see what the chef can do.
Look, it wasn't a terrible meal, it was just a forgettable one, and a let down to what I was expecting. My order of the fish did not help the wow factor, but 3 of the 5 plates we ordered just weren't very good. Too much salt, the overpowering sauce, and the "it could be any fried food sweetbreads" are not a product of my ordering.
At places like this I do like to go app heavy, and either split or skip the entree all together. So I'll concede that I did not give this place a high percentage to live up to my high expectations, but it would have fell short regardless.
The dessert again was great. I really was amazed at how the tastes and textures came together. It is just hard for me to go back so quickly when I want to hit places I haven't been in a while, and others that I still want to try.
I'll chalk this one up to Coquette having a bad night, and my experience is in the minority.

We ordered a bottle of red. It was good, and the price was on par with other restaurants.

When I did the blind tasting, they asked us if there was anything in particular on the menu that we really wanted to have. We said the sweetbreads and the scallops.
If anyone is skerd of trying sweetbreads, go get them at La Boca!

No, but I've been for a fairly large gathering before. Didn't rent out the entire upstairs or anything but it was a large group. Seems like it would be a great rehearsal dinner location but I wonder if they would let you.
Also, I had the sweetbreads as well and they were just okay. Sweetbreads at Patois are a lot better. But overall the meal was great. I love the restaurant and I just like how the restaurant is set-up.

The menu was three courses. 3 appetizer options. 3 entree options. 3 dessert options. Not me, because I didn't set it up, but a friend of mine picked the options.
And like I said, I wouldn't go the sweetbread option there. But go to Patois and order them there because they're great.
