Dog eye infection - what am I dealing with?

Alright OB dog owners and vets, what does my boykin have on her eye/lid?
It showed up two days ago and has gotten worse each day. Does she need to see a vet or will she get over it shortly?

How you like that boykin? Where'd you get him?

I would put a little neosporin on it and watch it for a couple of days...if it continues to get worse, bring her in...

dogs not too happy about having eye Aids and being locked up in the kennel
Is every other vet ridiculously expensive? Mine would take care of that for $25 and the cost of meds. He also tells me to use people meds when I can

Looks like a stye. For humans and my basset, you just put warm compresses on it, along with eye drops. Also, clean it with a mild soap. My basset gets them pretty frequently.
Pretty pup you have there.

I'm a human eye doc not a dog eye doc. I am not a dog Vet. However to my knowledge dogs don't get hordeolums or (styes) very often. I would rule out a spider bite or something along that line first. If it's a bite you DO NOT want to put heat on it. If it's worse again tomorrow I wold go see a vet.

I friend went blind in one eye by not going to the doc right of way. If you can afford a Boykin you can afford a dr visit. The dogs sight is not something that should be gambled.

Love my Boykin. Got her from Lazy Moon Kennels in Ashdown, AR.
I just put some neosporin on it and will see what happens. If it looks worse tomorrow, I will call the vet. She doesn't seem bothered by it and it didn't flinch when I put the neosporin on it so I reckon it can't be too bad.
Thanks for all of the input.

Difficult to say with just picture. Dogs can get meibomian cysts which look similar. Sometimes can be cleared with some antibiotic eye ointment. Some have to be surgically removed. As long as its not directly rubbing on cornea which can cause corneal ulcers then you can probably wait and monitor it. Dogs also commonly get benign skin tumors on their eyelids which have to be removed. I would go get it looked at and get some eye meds if it continues to get bigger and more inflamed.

You should ask Cootkilla. I'm sure he'll have an easy solution.

Why would you wait to see the vet? If its anything serious it will be more expensive to treat the longer you wait. If its something minor, go spend the money and get it taken care of. I don't understand people who get a pet and then don't want to spend money to maintain it.

Only costs about 0.22 dollars
I wouldn't worry about it. Doesn't look serious at all.

Thanks. I put some neosporin on it last night and it improved dramatcally overnight. I put more this morning and will see how it looks this evening.

not sure what it is.. but my black lab got one over his eye.. and in no time it was a big cyst that basically covered eye. he evidently scratched it off and it never came back

I'd try to pop it, but I'm no vet.
