Don't underestimate me. Why would you say it's near impossible though?

Hasn't he made several controversial comments over the years? I seem to recall something about the Little Sisters of the Poor, etc.

Yet his approach to Tressel was a lot like Penn State's towards Paterno.

OSU was great before Gee got there!

Actually....LSU has made a lot of strides since 1999. Defeatist attitudes like yours are not needed.

Strides were made but LSU was (is) still quite far away from being a premier University. LSU has been backsliding with the budget cuts.

The State is not committed to excellence at LSU. The State cannot afford it nor does it have the will to do what it would take.

Gee doesn't have the magic answer.

Go ahead and delude yourself but LSU will maintain its commitment to mediocrity and fund it commensurately.

Interestingly enough it isn't the State that makes OSU successful. It is the private and corporate endowments...one of which funds Gee's expenses and salary.

This. We rely too much on state funding. Louisiana spends $11,183 per student at public universities. That is 12th highest in the country. Ohio spends $7,106.

I've often wondered why we can't get more out of the oil and gas industry than we do. You would think, considering how many of our engineers go right into that field, the big companies like Chevron, Shell, ExxonMobil, and especially BP would see it as an investment that would result in better educated and trained labor and in BP's case, goodwill.

ETA: I'm not sure this belongs on the rant... doesn't have too much to do with athletics

You would be dumb to boo him. I have been in meetings with Gordon. You will greatly enjoy any opportunity to hear him speak. He's also a big sports fan and put Vandy on track to be more competitive in the SEC.

LSU has great potential academically. OSU is a great school to model our academic program after. If LSU keeps moving up academically, I'm all for it. It makes my degree that much more valuable.

I could be wrong, but during his time at Vanderbilt he eliminated some admin positions in sports. Like the AD.

Actually, what they did in 2003 was put varsity sports basically as another "department" or college which legally allowed Vanderbilt athletics to use some of the University's vast endowment money. Vandy had and still has a "National Commodore Club" , like TAF, but if you view it as an electoral college, LSU's TAF is Texas and Vandy's NCC is one of the Dakota's.

Since this was implemented, Vandy has made two Sweet 16s, won the SEC basketball tournament, made three bowls, been the overall #1 seed in baseball and made the CWS.

Pretty good results for a team without "an athletic department."

As long as local dimwit politicians insist on Balkanizing Louisiana's higher education system in the delusional hope of having a full-service, independently managed university in every one stoplight town, LSU won't get beyond 3rd class status and the others won't be more than glorified trade schools.

This has nothing to do with sports. The man is one of the most respected University Presidents around. He's coming to help us. Booing him is completely ignorant and this thread is worthless.

What do you expect? I mean shite the people who received these emails are going to school there so one would hope they're educated but apparently not.
