What size BGE did you get Dave?

XL. I was going to get a large with a nest. Then we heard stories how they weren't that sturdy and could tip over. Started looking at putting it in a table. Then I looked at the XL and it had a much wider base and the dealer confirmed he had never heard of any stability issues. For the price of a large plus a table, I got an XL and a platesetter.

For now I just have it sitting on a concrete patio with no stand. I have an LSU beach-type chair that is the perfect height when sitting. I think I'm moving in the next year and will build/buy a table to house it.

I would recommend buying the biggest you can afford. You won't waste much, if any, extra charcoal with a bigger size.

I agree completely. I went with the Primo Oval XL which I initially thought was overkill. The firebox divider allows you to only fill one side for direct/indirect heat whole meal simultaneous cooking. Plenty of room for huge cooks and not at all a waste for just my fiancée and me.

+1, if you are looking at a ceramic grill you are looking at a 20+ year grill. If you have the money get the biggest you can afford...

Speaking of grill size, that's another thing that worries me. I'm used to cooking on a gas grill that has over 500 sq" to cook on. An 18" grill only has 245sq" and a 24" one has 450sq".

There's no way i could even remotly justify spending $1200 on a grill, $800 is a stretch already. I'm just worried that i wouldn't have enough area to cook on.

I went to shoppers choice today and looked at all the grills. The salesman was very helpful, I think it was stated earlier in this thread, but he told me if I wanted to cook on them just bring some meat over and have at it. I think if I pull the trigger it will be a large grill dome or large kamado joe.

Salesman pretty much told me you can't go wrong with any of them. Just gotta pick a size.......he also said same as you guys.....get as big as you can afford.

I'm looking to get either a grill dome or a primo, and am looking to spend around 800 bucks. Is it worth it to save 100 on the primo jr as opposed to the large grill dome, or should I got with the large grill dome for the extra cooking space? Any feedback is much appreciated.

Get the large GD!

There's also the "Grill Extender" now which is an accessory grate which sits on top of the main grate and allows for even more cooking area if you need it.
