Specifically to us, do you think things would have turned out any differently having an SEC school in our own state the last several decades? What comparison would you give them to us...Vanderbilt is to Tennessee as Tulane would have been to us?

I think it would have been a little interesting to see how it turned out and how much more money the Tulane football program would have to play with. Specifically to see how it would have impacted our recruiting within the state with another SEC team in it.

The biggest mistake was when Tulane got out of the SEC for their program.

Why did Sewanee have to leave? We were developing such a good rivalry.

Tulane could've been what Stanford is in the PAC 12. Or they could be like Duke in the ACC and be irrelevant.

Seriously though, Tulane might've been able to be better than Vandy. New Orleans has so much talent that getting a bunch of local guys alone would've made them competitive I think.I don't really know much about Nashville high school ball though.

Just imagine how much of a powerhouse Tougaloo would have been, had they been admitted.

I would guarantee it would be a huge rivalry between LSU and Tulane.

Speaking of Tulane, found some Tulane and MIKE the Tiger history on a Mike painting[print] in a local restaurant in Winnfield. Mike 1 [1936-1956]. Six tigers have served this prestigious position up to the time of this printing. The first Mike was purchased from Little Rock Zoo for $750. Each student gave .25 cents to raise the money. The tigers name was Sheik but was changed to Mike in honor of Mike Chambers,LSU'S Athletic trainer at the time.
Chambers led the way in bringing the new mascot to LSU. The first 'MIKE' was onced kidnapped before a game with Tulane. He was later found abandoned in New Orleans. Mike and his cage had been painted Tulane green.

considering what the SEC payout to the individual programs is today, they could finance their whole program and then some....

The SEC would be a lot closer to being like CUSA, but Tulane would still be Tulane and playing to empty stadiums, Except when they play LSU...

Top 3 Tulane athletic mistakes:

De-emphasizing athetics (1960s)
Leaving the SEC ('1966)
Playing games in the Superdome (1974)

ETA: #4 = hiring Scott Cowen (1998)

don't think they be great in football and basketball but they may have had a championship or two in baseball. They always challenge us back in the 90s. Having SEC tied to their name in the 90s would have helped them get a few better recruits

Tulane would still suck!!!! I remember twice in the 1960's the final score was 62-0. They were terrible then, and would be today even if they had stayed in the SEC. Actually, the SEC would have kicked them out (it wouldn't be their choice to stay or go).

Recruiting for LSU would have hurt. Ole Miss would not be the bottom tier FB team. Ms State would be beating 2 teams in the west.
