Why is everyone dismissing this guy?

Shaka Smart
He's young, energetic, and a damn good coach. He has brought Virginia Commonwealth, I repeat, VIRGINIA COMMONWEALTH to a final four in 2011. IMO he's the perfect coach for the job. He'll have a big name to recruit under, plus he's a "players coach". Also, his offensive system is second to none in college basketball. Pay the guy some big bucks and get this shite on a roll.

Turned down a shitload from Illinois, who has been a better overall bball team over the last 15 years, just last season.
Most think he is waiting for Ben Howland to get canned at UCLA so he can get back to the left coast.

Damn, well that answers my question.

Can we get a sticky on why Shaka isn't coming to LSU?

I'm pretty sure he turned them down last month, not last season. Maybe that's what you meant.

Not good enough for us Ranters. Brady brought LSU, I repeat, LSU, to the final four in 2006.
We fired him two years later for having the audacity to need to rebuild.

I wouldn't want him anyway. For every Bruce Pearl there are five John Pelphrey's.
I don't want a mid-major coach under any circumstances unless a coach has turned a mid-major into a legitimate Sweet 16 contender on a yearly basis ala Mark Few.
Shaka is nothing more than a flavor of the month mid-major coach. He went to the final four with Grant's recruits. This year they were a 12 seed, and they lost in the first round.
He may be the next coaching star, but everyone annointing this guy needs to take a look at the trend of hiring mid-major coaches who've never succeeded in big conference basketball.

Brady also had two eventual first rounders that season, no thanks to his recruiting. They also pretty much just played street ball and dominated inside on a smaller Duke team.

This year they were a 12 seed, and they upset a really good Wichita State team that was seeded 5th, and then scared the ever-living shite out of 4th-seeded Indiana in the next round.

"Third" round. My bad. So, he's been to one final four with a team composed almost entirely of Grant's recruits, and he advanced to the second day of the NCAA tournament this year with a team that's till composed almost entirely of Grant recruits.
By this logic, people should have flocked to hire Jim Larrinaga or the Davidson coach, who actually accomplished a more impressive feat of coaching an academically prestigious mid-major to the Elite 8.
I want a coach who has had success on a larger stage. I don't want anyone cutting his teeth at LSU. It's a pretty simple concept.
Mark Few is an example of someone who has turned Gonzaga into a consistent program. I don't believe one deep run in a tournament at a mid-major school and advancing to the second day of the tournament qualifies as a consistent program under Shaka's watch.

You've obviously never seen a Smart coached team. You should do that before you post nonsense.
