We'd still have to beat Ole Miss later that day, but yeah.

Technically, LSU would need one of the last two.

Agreed, but I was assuming he meant clinching before the final week of the season.

I think '07, the west was clinched prior to the Arkansas game.

We clinched the west in either '05 or '07 before homecoming. I remember seeing homecoming stuff that was themed "How the West Was Won".

I assume it was. Otherwise I don't know how we could have lost and still gone to the SECCG.

Someone else could have had to lose that day but I don't think that was the case. I think the Ole Miss victory clinched the west for LSU.

I remember leaving Oxford in '07 as the SEC champs & knowing Bama had just lost to ULM.

in 2003, we still had to beat Arkansas. LSU & Ole Miss each only had 1 loss heading into the final week. If we lose to Arky and Ole Miss beats State, which they did, Ole Miss would have gone.

In 2007, people are right, we clinched when we beat ole miss. Auburn already had 3 losses going into the final weekend.

2005, LSU and Auburn each only had 1 loss & LSU had the tie-breaker by way of John Vaughn's 5 missed field goals. Still had to beat arky at the end of the year

I'm pretty sure - it may have happened with a loss earlier in the day, but I think we clinched the week prior.

Obviously we didn't have to beat Arkansas to rep the West...

The SEC East plays there non-conference rivalry game on the last weekend... so their SEC schedule is complete a week before the west in most years... at least for the teams that have mattered for the past 10 years.

I would also imagine playing in Atlanta doesn't hurt them getting tickets either.
