Something for me and her to do during the day one day. Also I have little experience cooking anything.

There's a "cooking school" for tourists at the RiverWalk. My wife and I did it because we were given it as a gift and it was fun. It's not too technical or anything, and all you get to do is watch (and sample the food).

I was looking for something we could do step by step and have an end product we could enjoy. Maybe I need to do some digging.

There are places like that in BR. Probably the same driving distance from Ponchatoula that downtown NOLA would be.

what kind of cooking are you looking to do? i would be willing to do something like that for yall at your home, it would just all depend on what style of cooking you are interested in. i specialize in asian cuisines naturally having been a sushi chef for 8 years, but can generally do anything in the kitchen given some advanced notice.

New Orleans School of Cooking

Pretty good deal. My wife and I did this a couple of years ago...good food, good info and reasonably priced. We did the 2 1/2 hour class. Good luck!

Open Demonstration Lunch Classes

Our popular lunch classes are "open" to individual reservations. The original two and a half hour class, featuring 4 food items, is held daily from 10am-12:30pm. We also offer a 2 hour class, featuring 3 food items, on Fridays and Saturdays, from 2pm-4pm. All "open" classes include generous samplings of the demonstrated items as well as recipes, coffee, iced tea and beer. Reservations may be made at (504) 525-2665 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              (504) 525-2665      end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting              (504) 525-2665      end_of_the_skype_highlighting begin_of_the_skype_highlighting (504) 525-2665 end_of_the_skype_highlighting (local) or 1-800-237-4841 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 1-800-237-4841 end_of_the_skype_highlighting. All open classes include generous samplings of the demonstrated menu items as well as recipes, coffee, iced tea and Abita beer.

Pretty sure you would.

Next time I eat there, I'll let you know I post on TD.
