(The homegrown tomato thread prompted me to drive by there today.)

Glad to see they reopened this year. I just got back with a bunch of tomatoes, squash, and other goodies.

For those that aren't familiar with it, it's just a little shack on Highland Rd. in BR that has locally grown fresh veggies. You know, for those of us who don't garden!

Yes, they do...I got a few ears to try it. It looked a little "young" still so I'm not sure how it will taste.

Indy...if you're talking about the old man who used to run the place, he passed away last year. I think his son & brother are running it this year.

It is open everyday and no the old man is not a nutjob. He died and his brother, daughter and son in law run it. They are old Italians who used to own all the property where Kenilworth developed and they vegetable farmed it. When they sold it for development they moved to Pointe Coupee where they still farm and kept the little stand on the old homestead. They own the old house behind it and lease it out for Christmas trees. Across from Highland Hardware.

Best corn and homegrown tomatos you will ever find. Go after noon because the truck shows up at noon and whatever is on it was picked that morning.

I have a dozen ears to cook today from him. Cash only.

Open every day I believe. Daylight hours, cash only as Martini said.

Not much fruit yet--peaches & watermelon so far.

Zilla--I'm really not sure about the pesticide use. I'll try to remember to ask next time I go.

Oh they're no tree huggers I guarantee that. I imagine Treflan works into their garden. But what the hell, they taste good. I've got a pot simmering right now to toss my corn in shortly.

Take an ear of that corn with husks on. Take off just the outer husks. Put it in the microwave on about 2:45 minutes. Grab it with a potholder. Pull most of the silks right out of the top of it. Husk it and the rest will come off just fine. Should be perfect. The fresher the corn, the less time in the wave. The larger the kernels, the longer in the wave, but 3 minutes is tops. I haven't boiled or steamed corn in a gazillion years.

And, if you just need to clean the corn for any reason, do the same thing, but put it in for a minute. The silks will come right off.
