That’s a no for me dawg… not sure why any regular traveler would do this. Maybe something in missing

I wouldn't use their portal except to get the $300 back against the fee. So probably for a rental car. Then the 10,000 points you get every year offsets the rest.

What you're left with is 2x earning everywhere. The benefit there is using this card when other cards only earn 1/1.5x.

And while limited, the Capital One Lounges are supposedly actually usable.

You'll just have to decide if the point diversification is useful or not. I've been on the fence for awhile.

Chase Marriott for hotel

I’m late jumping in here, but my thoughts for you:

- be aware of chase’s 5/24 rule if you’re considering applying for any chase cards now or in the next 2 years

- transferable points(amex MR, chase UR are almost always better than program specific points. I think you said you already have titanium status, so ifyou prefer staying in marriotts go for amex business platinum or chase ink cash/unlimited. Both transfer to Marriott, but can also transfer to other hotels as well. Business platinum was discussed above, Ink cash/unlimited are both no fee cards offering 90k points for $6k spend in 3 months. Ink unlimited is 1.5x on everything. Ink cash is 5x on select categories, including office supply stores. Staples frequently run $0 fee promos of visa/Mc gift cards, so you can buy up to $1800 worth of gift cards for $1800, and get up to 9000 ur points for it. Gift cards can be more of a pain to use, but if you have the patience for it you’ll essentially be getting 5x points on every dollar you spend, anywhere.

- if you’re set on getting brand specific cards, there are multiple versions of Marriott cards with both chase and amex. And there are really weird rules in place for which other Marriott cards you can get depending on which ones you’ve had previously. Currently the best Marriott card offer is probably the chase boundless card, offering 5 free night certificates at 50k points each. LINK

- it’s not open to new applications anymore, but the chase ritz Carlton card is still available for product changes from other chase Marriott cards. The ritz card is a premium card with a $450 af, but any frequent traveler should make easy use of the credits/status to offset the fee. I did the boundless card offer earlier this year and am planning to change to the ritz card when my annual fee hits next year. LINK

- amex green and chase ink preferred are both 3x on all travel including hotels, and much cheaper than saphire reserve

- Just be aware amex gold 4x for groceries doesn’t apply to places like Walmart, sams, costco, etc.

- capitalone is weird with approvals. I’ve been approved for every card I’ve ever applied for including all of the higher end ones discussed here, but was denied for the venturex card when it came out a few years ago. Multiple credit card bloggers reported the same. Seems like having a previous banking relationship with capitalone helps, but everything else is a crapshoot.

Bump..

Say you travel for work 50% of the time and the company reimburses, what is the best credit card or combo of cards? Would involve airfare, hotels, dining, Ubers.

A combination like Chase Sapphire Reserve for travel and dining (3x points), and the American Express Platinum Card for additional travel benefits like airport lounge access and Uber credits could be advantageous. These cards offer points that can be redeemed for travel expenses, and their perks can offset their annual fees for frequent travelers.

If you would fly one specific airline most of the time (ie southwest) would you get a southwest card in lieu of an AMEX?

Yes, if you consistently fly Southwest, it would be beneficial to get their co-branded credit card. The Southwest Rapid Rewards credit cards offer perks bonus points on Southwest purchases, free checked bags, and companion passes, can up your travel experience and savings.

Bump.

Posted this in Some guy made 300k from CC Points/Rewards thread.

So, need a little help to kind of know where to go from here.

A little background, wife and I have always just had CC’s that didn’t really pay much on rewards, and I wasn’t comfortable enough to say “Hey, let’s run a lot of our expenses through a credit card for the rewards.” They were used more for emergencies.

So, fast forward to now, we own a retail business and are running all of our inventory through a Chase Ink Businss Premier. That ends up being around $400k per year. I’ve just been getting my 2% cash back and rolling along.

In the meantime, our personal financial situation (through some inheritance) has improved to where we are debt free (other than the house), and now I would feel comfortable running expense through a CC and start playing the rewards game. I don’t want to get complicated, but if there’s a way I can fly or stay somewhere for free, I want to do so.

Someone mentioned pooling points with Chase Sapphire in the other thread. Can someone explain a little how this works? I assume that if I have a Chase Sapphire account that my business can deposit the Business Premier points into the Sapphire account?

To kind of give a background on our typical yearly lives, we go on a couple true vacations per year, probably 4-6 weekends out of town per year, and then travel for business 3-4 times per year. We fly rarely, maybe on a plane once every 2 years, but if I had rewards that were tied to flying, renting cars, etc. we’d explore that option more. Wife’s a Hilton Honors member, I’m a Marriot and Hyatt member, but we really just stay where ever the best deal and most convenient place seems to be.

So what’s a good direction for me to go?

Chase Sapphire? Reserve or Preferred?

I'd start a new thread and ask. You'll get more and better responses. Not everyone peeks in here.

I think the chase route of some type is going to be right for you, but I don't own a business and everyone is different so I'd rather leave advice up to someone closer to being in your shoes.
