Name 4 coaches that have had to deal with an ongoing player revolt. Day and Riley inherited stable top notch programs that were already operating at a high level with a minimum of upheaval and actually came into stable situations as assistants. Smart walked into a relatively stable environment. Saban may be the only coach who knows how it is like to walk into a buzzsaw. But also the landscape has changed with players leaving after 3 years and the free agent like transfer portal even Saban would be challenged.

I don't understand the upvotes for this post. Butch Jones had success at solid programs he inherited from Brian Kelly. He maxed out at 9 wins when he got to Tennessee. Fleck built Western freaking Michigan into a Cotton Bowl team, and had an 11-win season at Minnesota. He has more skins on the wall at historically tough jobs than some of this board's favorites.

Point taken, but he is a mascot head coach with a bunch of cute little mottos that will wear thin quickly at LSU. After the last 15 years I hope LSU is done having eccentric characters at head coach gets someone who wins football games.

ETA he also supported canceling the season in 2020. That alone makes it a non-starter.

I like Fleck, but I think he'd be a bit of a personality mismatch in the SEC. I think the Big10 is his fit, honestly.

Again what about him is eccentric or makes him a loon.? Looks like a good solid coach to me, plus he's not some overrated retread so-called splash hire

I’ve made the point that Napier has the worst resume of anyone mentioned on this board.

Look at Dabo’s, Urban’s and Tressel’s resumés at the time of hire at their first P5 job. Napier’s resumé is better than all of them. Your logic of the best resume equals the best hire is exactly how top program’s miss out on generational hires like the 3 mentioned above.

Urban had won and won big time at not one but two G5 programs taking one to a bcs bowl.

Utah played 3 power 5 teams in Meyers final season and beat all three. Napier has faced 5 over 4 years and only beaten one.

Jim Tressel had spent 14 years at a 1-AA program and won 4 national titles. Big jump to Ohio state but 14 seasons with 4 national titles is better than 4 sun belt years with 0 conference titles.

Napier has been at one program in his fourth year and hasn’t even really won his conference yet.

I will grant you his resume is considerably better than Dabos but to compare Clemson at the time of Dabos hiring to LSU is laughable.

Lol even if you think Urban’s and Tressel’s resumes were better, I do not, that still doesn’t discount my point that the best resumé does not equal the best hire which was your point.

OK so he's a loon but he's a loon that has proven he can win.
A "LOON" is anybody that's not "One of Us" according to the Luzianner Lifer Shrimp Brigade.

They don't like anybody that appears to be astute, educated and just a little bit different.

I was a Fleck fan last time and still am. Not saying he’s my first choice, but I’d be on board.

People don’t like the corny row the boat stuff, but his teams get behind it.

I’m with you on this. I watched a video of him yesterday and it may seem corny to us but he literally pitches “row the boat” to these recruits and they buy into it completely. His players love him and play hard for him. PERIOD

He’s not my first choice either but his style would bring excitement and life back to LSU no doubt

He's a good coach, but you get another HC that has never been a coordinator. He'll be as good as his staff hires.

im not saying Fleck is my number 1, but he is up there.

but this shite is dumb. Riley has only been as good as his DC hires, Kirby only as good as his OC hires

etc etc. The only one that seems immune is saban, but there is a reason he is the GOAT.

and for the record, fleck has a very specific offense he runs. He is very involved in the X&O much more so than someone like O.

We dont need another cheerleader but we also dont need a guy who is a coordinator pretending to be a HC.

We need a program builder, that can be a CEO or a subject matter expert on one side, doesnt matter. Its about installing a culture, organizing recruiting, managing the roster.....honestly something O was pretty good at before 2019. But most importantly, we need a guy who can identify coaching talent and get them to work for him. This is something O sucked at.

Hard to look at Flecks resume and determine he’s “unqualified” for a complete rebuild. He’s an interesting choice for sure. Not sure why people are so put off by him honestly
