Those Poor Ole Automakers are facing huge problems.

Oh cry me a river!
Hopefully the bottom falls out and they start making more affordable vehicles. The large pickup truck market had gotten ridiculous with base pricing of $45-55K now days. Now instead of lowering prices they are jacked up, and financed for 7 years.
The last new truck I purchased was a 2007 Chevy Silverado (Classic)Ext cab Z71. With trade-in, and rebates I financed $22,500 for 60 months.
I can't wait for all those 2021 model to finally hit the lots in 2023. Maybe then some real deals can be found.

Industry experts say automakers are having trouble getting all manner of parts and raw materials for a variety of reasons, including Covid-related plant shutdowns by suppliers, logistical problems involving shortages of ships, shipping containers and truck drivers, and difficulty that some suppliers are having filling jobs.
But we shouldn’t have focused on revamping American raw material and base supply manufacturing nor should we try to invest in Mexico. Nope, we should rely on and invest in China and SE Asia.
As for prices being so high, I wonder what the interest rate remaining near zero has done for the market. If the rate was >5% would
Prices be lower so more would finance?

When your government requires add-ons like backup cameras and fuel mileage minimums, who do you think pays for it?

Mother fricker, you could've at least warned me that it was a CNN rag, then I wouldn't have bothered at clicking on it.
The UAW is what has fricked up the auto industry, not the makers themselves.

It won't change until people stop paying it.

There is a way to make vehicles cheaper. No automatic windows, no leather seats, no Bose 8 speaker audio system, etc… Would you buy one?

People are willing to pay it
You can thank dumb people who have no idea how interest works
All they care about is the monthly note

Hell Yes. Make it a standard too.

No automatic windows
I actually like this better.

no leather seats
Cloth seats are better in the Deep South.

Not worth the extra money.

You know you can get a pickup with out all the options...

One of the reasons there are chip issues is because of the “just in time” inventory method used by Japanese manufacturers. JIT is used, ironically, to reduce costs.

I also saw that the average age of vehicles on the road has climbed from 9years to 12 years
However new vehicle sales are still setting alltime highs

does it still have safety features? does it still have an AC? does it still have some scaled down version of a radio/bluetooth speaker? will it get me 250k miles?
if yes, i’m in.

JIT works during normal times.
California port authorities and foreign governments shutting factories down are making sure these are not normal times.

That and the amount of people that feel obligated to purchase a new car/truck every 4-5 years. Most cars today are engineered to go 200k miles with regular maintenance, but so many Americans view their cars as status symbols and they have to keep up with the Jones's.
There's a thread on here at least once a week asking about new truck because their 2015 is "getting long in the tooth." Anything wrong with it? No, just looks dated.

Yes, as long as it has A/C and a stereo. I come from the mindset of it is a truck and will be used like a truck. Keep all the fancy stuff for the soccer moms in the Tahoe. Yes it is nice to ride in a fancy truck, but screw these asking prices.

I would absolutely buy something like a late 80s Toyota SR5 with manual everything if Toyota decided to remake it and sell at the same price (adjusted for inflation).
