Another problem I can't quite grasp ....trucker shortage.
Where in the hell did the truckers go during the lockdown?
I have to travel to Nashville about every 3 months. My experience on I-40 is that there are no trucker shortages on that interstate.

The Wal-Mart over here in Pass Christian literally closed its doors for 2 days because they had such a massive stock shortage. Could have been due to the storm, for sure, but I've seen plenty of grocery stores here on the coast with huge sections of empty shelves, particularly with cold/perishable items.

Shortages? Biden is increasing our chocolate ration to 20 grams a week. TWO MINUTE HATE!

My kids were hooked on grape Capri Suns (Roaring Waters). Haven’t been in any stores for at least 4 months now.

Who buys food at Wal Mart?
Does it matter if it’s a bag of Doritos, especially if the Doritos are cheaper at Wal-Mart and/or that’s the nearest store?

I think the shortages were much more acute last year during the lockdowns

You are spot on. The entire supply chain is fricked up, including the transportation sector. Shortages of truck drivers was the main reason for the gas shortages following Ida. Inventory was there the entire time, couldn’t move it because the big distributors can’t hire enough drivers.
Paying people to stay home was, and is, a major cause of all of what we are seeing

I went to Rouse's when the power was still out (Rouse's had a generator). I only purchased non-perishable stuff but there was still a lot of cold stuff available. But when the power came back on it was like a bunch locusts went in there. The package cheese was completely out and they have a large selection.. No Pillsbury biscuits.. Most soft drinks were out.. no mayo.. Bread was picked over. But they had a lot of milk, some meat and a lot of bottled water. That was last Friday and I need to go tomorrow I'll see if it has been stocked.

We provide free carts for fat people to drive through the store and buy more food (many of them with my money).
That friggin depresses me and pisses me off that someone gets that fat in the first place. I’d rather my tax dollars go to gastric bypass surgery for them

Chip shortage is a disaster
Trying to paint a couple of bedrooms right now and have gotten halted midway thru because Sherwin Williams has a terrible shortage
Random one — drink a good bit of Gatorade and there is a massive shortage there too. I think I read due to polyethylene/polypropylene issues with their bottling.

Here as well. My food lion always has half empty shelves. Half the meat section is also empty.

Most jobs are pretty awful. I’m guessing that people really won’t want to go back to their old lives.
Child care is also an issue for poor people.

If you don’t work you don’t eat. We need to make this is a thing.

There is a combination of factors that are driving this:
1) Lack of workers in the manufacturing sector (including food processors)
2) Lack of workers in the ports (Shipping is stacking up, there are lots of container ships sitting off the west coast)
3) There is a shortage of cargo containers to move goods in from overseas
4) There is a shortage of truck drivers to move the items from the ports to the distribution facilities
5) There is a lack of workers in the distribution facilities
6) There is a shortage of truck drivers to move items from the distribution centers to the point of sale locations
7) There are chip shortages that are impacting multiple sectors including the automotive industry
Several of these are a direct result of the government handouts that remove the incentive to work.
There are probably more that I am forgetting
All of this combines to create huge ripple effects in the supply chain of products to our store shelves. There have been numerous warnings that we will experience large shortages during the Christmas season. I suggest that if you need to buy the toy or device of the day as a Christmas present, don't wait until the last few weeks.

Part of the problem is transportation. Labor shortages, Covid, and weather conditions have slowed delivery to stores.

The wal mart warehouse in Robert was inoperable from Ida until a couple of days ago. All the wal marts in the area pull from Robert. Hence why Walmart shelves were empty.
