I’ve had the Marlin for about 15 years. Rigged a VX1 Leupold on it and it’s a tack driver. I also have it in a single action Heritage revolver.

I love my Marlin. It is louder than than I expected with zero recoil so it a great gun to practice with.

Same here, bolt action with a bull barrel. its scoped and super accurate. LOUD as all get out is a FACT, I remember the first time I was playing with it at a lease and people started walking outside like that in the hell is that noise,

I've had it for probably 10 years now and just pick up ammo boxes when I see them around.

It used to be a fun round to shoot. Nothing is really fun to shoot anymore due to the ammo shortage. I think back at all the rounds I put down wind and it feels like another world.

I have a Savage bolt with a thumb stock. I put a cheap 6x24 scope on it and it will shoot better than I can make it shoot. Like less than a dime at 200yds.

Looks like this stock pic (unlike this one the folding bipod I added to mine is actually too long and the feet extend into the muzzle blast area when folded up)

I have the exact same rifle and have the Caldwell bipod with the longer legs on it too. I just duct taped some foam pipe insulation around the legs, to make it comfortable to carry slung on my shoulder and install it so that it folds to the rear instead of forward. It works pretty well for me.

Love my Savage 93R.

It’s a tack driver, but heavy with the bull barrel. Still plan on trying it out on squirrels this fall.

Now thinking 17hmr?
Oh, and I would suggest a scope with adjustable objective. I hated my first rimfire scope because of how many really close shots I get on squirrels.

I have a Ruger. I love it! Tack driver at 150 yards. Hitting stuff out at 300 yards, with no wind

it's not some ballistic defying round that shoots tight groups. It’s like any other round. Some guns shoot it well others don’t.

I'm going to respectfully disagree based on my real world experience. I've been handloading for 30 years, and even designed several small caliber cartridges. Every so often the stars line up perfectly and a newly introduced cartridge is "inherently accurate". Perfect shoulder angle, optimum case capacity, perfect powder burn rate, and ideal bullet weight. The 6PPC and 6BR are examples of stupidly accurate cartridges that will shoot 1-ragged hole groups without even trying. The 17HMR falls into that category. Whether it's a $179 Savage or a $2000 Anschutz, the HMR will shoot tiny, tiny groups. The 204Ruger is also an inherently accurate round. It was designed by a benchrest shooter for the purpose of killing groundhogs, coyotes, and small predators out to 350 yds. with super flat trajectory. 32 gr bullet at 4225 fps ... .75" high @ 100yds, zero at 200yds, -3" low at 300yds

edit to post pics of my rifles

Great round. I have taken out small pigs with no problem. It shoots flat and is dead accurate.

I bought the mach II. I just didn't see the point of anything made from the mag casing. Love it.

I bought the M2, as well. I really like it and think it's a better tree squirrel hunting round than the 17 HMR since the HMR "blows up" a squirrel. I'd suggest you buy M2 ammo whenever you see it. I expect it to be a "dead" round some day. Oddy, ALL the HMR and M2 ammo made in the US is made by CCI.

It solves a problem that didn’t exist. It is much more expensive to shoot than a .22 lr and almost as loud as a center fire rifle. Yes, at 100 yards it will turn a squirrel inside out or a bird into a puff of feathers. But a AR-15 5.56/.223 or bolt action .223 will do everything a .17 hmr will do and also do things that it won’t do, like kill a pig (with the right bullet) with a shoulder or a-hole shot. I have a savage 93 in .17 hmr, and after the new wore off it it disappeared into the back corner. It is fun to shoot, but I have no reason to shoot it. I do not know when I last shot it, and really don’t think I ever thought “that is the best gun for (insert anything I would use a gun tor). Since I reload and a rimfire like .17 hmr can not be reloaded, I can shoot .223 as cheap as the 17,, and for just plinking a .22 lr is far quieter and much cheaper. I bought it as a cheap truck gun, but I prefer the .22 mag marlin i have over it. With that said I almost never have either of them in the truck. When i used to trap some I always carried a ruger 10/22, and it killed a lot of animals both in traps and on drive bys. Now I usually have an AR in .223 loaded with barnes 62 grain or sierra 65 grain gamekings.when riding around. It is a lot more deadly than a .22 lr, mag, or 17 hmr.

Yeah, I have several boxes and I do not shoot for fun. Strange thing is, the round was basically declared dead before my gun was made, so someone out there sees the utility.

Something bugged me about this pic yesterday, just now figured it out.. It's the stock, is it really short grain instead of long grain?

It’s a maple stock. That pattern in the wood is called tiger maple. Maple is very strong and plenty strong enough for a rimfire.

That is correct. Also highly sought after for electric guitar necks. Beautiful to look at, can get a slick silky feel, and stands up to the tension of the strings forever.
