It's time to play a big game at a neutral site...

I'd say an LSU-Texas matchup in Jerry's new stadium in 2009 would be freaking sweet. Could you imagine the hype, and it could only help with our current raid of Texas.

we probably could.. if we didn't have that asinine contract to play tulane each year.

Honestly what we need to try and do, we get a 3 game series with a Texas team ... a home, home neutral, and be willing to suck it up and not get the first home game ...
To me especially if we can get a quality calibur Texas team that would be amazing and get LSU their game in Texas for recruits and alumns ...

Teams like Notre Dame and Alabama go neutral so that they can develop more of a "national presence" that they once had. They are trying to regain what they've lost (and it won't work imho). LSU doesn't need what those two teams crave. It needs only to seal off Louisiana's borders and build bigger trophy cases.
Why play in Jerry's Stadium when the greatest stadium on earth is on the LSU campus?

2009 schedule is set.
But 2010 and 2011 still have a hole. Play Texas at Reliant Stadium those two years.
And the Tulane series is a boon to LSU. We make as much from playing home and away with Tulane as we would from playing to rent-a-win teams... Look into it.

Why is this thought to be true?
Dallas 5-star recruit, "Wow, there is a team called the LSU Tigers, I know this because they are playing a neutral game today in Dallas. It's crazy I have never seen them play before, since they have been in multiple BSC games, and they have PLAYED IN TWO BCS CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES."

The same could be said of Houston. It's bigger than Dallas, the metropolitan area has more people that Ft. Worth/Dallas, and it's 200 plus miles closer. LSU will get more recruits from Houston than Dallas.
Besides...all I have to do is drive across town.

From like 1912 to 1936, LSU and Arkansas always played in Shreveport, I guess during the State Fair. If a) Independence Stadium had at least 70K, and b) we still played Tulane to end every season, I wouldn't mind that happening.
I predict, however, that a committee representing either Jerryland or the Cotton Bowl will begin a year-by-year neutral college football season, giving the Dallas-Fort Worth area a "football season" even if they don't have a major team for whom to root.
Texas vs. Oklahoma (already in Dallas)
Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State (in Dallas soon)
Texas A&M vs. Arkansas (in Dallas soon)
Texas Christian vs. (BCS-caliber opponent)
Southern Methodist vs. (BCS-caliber opponent)
North Texas vs. (BCS-caliber opponent)
Rice/Baylor/Houston/UTEP vs. (BCS-caliber opponent)
I don't know the specifics of how to pull something like this off, but I've been suspecting that Dallas would try something like this someday. Notre Dame would go for it. The service academies (though not very competitive) would go for it. Alabama seems open to this sort of idea.
Thoughts?

Texas will never go for that. They already get raped every year by Oklahoma in recruiting. They won't have us going in there year in and year out, and thats what a LSU vs Texas matchup would give us if we won. Believe me, this is the first year we've done this well in Texas, and they don't want that happening every year.

LSU does that every year. It's called a bowl game.

WRONG!
Dallas/Fort Worth Metro is bigger than the Houston Metro.
Dallas Metro= 6.1 million
Houston Metro= 5.6 million
