Dumbest play in MLB history... just step on the base

Astoundingly awful. It was two outs.

Comically bad. The worst team in bball.

I thought hitters were immediately out of they try to return to home plate

Dude's gotta be benched after that, right?

I am in a chat right now with my fantasy league. We all thought this. We cannot find it in the rulebook.

Or tag Baez... he can't go back past the plate and a tag on a forced runner is considered a force out so no run scores.

This is all I can find
quote:
A.R. 3—On a tag play between home plate and first base, a batter-runner may retreat toward home plate to evade a tag, but shall be declared out after touching or passing home plate, or leaving the base line. The ball remains live. Therefore, a runner can back up to just before he would touch home plate.

That was my understanding as well. 80% sure the hitter should have been called out.

Perhaps I'm wrong. I may be thinking of a double play ball. I know if you are forced to move to the next base, such as from 1st to 2nd, you can't retreat back towards 1st.

The GM post game conference when asked why he plays first base

I'm struggling to think of a worse defensive play that I've ever seen

That is remarkable Step on the base, simply apply the tag, or go full fricking retard
Those were his three options. He did not choose wisely

I know this is a NCAA Softball rule because I saw it discussed not long ago. Not sure about MLB though
