His proposal gets rid of SALT deductions, the child tax credit, child and dependent care tax credits, and TANF.

Without looking at any numbers that would appear to be about revenue neutral.

Think of it like this. Married couple with three kids aged 9 to 12 already gets a $6,000 tax credit. Now they don't. Poor family that gets monthly cash from Tanf now doesnt. That is about $2800 annually. Then child and dependent care credit also saves some money as well.

If those things are true and removed, im okay with this as its essentially a shift in how the same funds are distributed.

We dont technically gain or lose anything.

The only people who win are single moms, but they have been winning since they married the Government a long time ago.

So, another bait-and-switch by the Democrats.

Look what we're doing for you! We took $3,000 from your left pocket and put it in your right pocket! Praise us!

Well, in today's terms it doesn't get paid for... that is was a credit/debt system is there for... to give you stuff you can't afford.

The government direct payments are more or less the last defense of the equation's final result.

The system no longer generates the amount of new credit/debt needed to sustain the prior amounts i.e. interest.

Without the federal government expanding their bonds issuance and the fed's ability to monetize said bonds... instant collapse.

The system is not build to ever be paid off, there is no mechanic for that other than dead bodies.

greedy boomers

You are too much. Enough with "you boomers" on this board. Look at your post, gen x has the 20 y/o's living at home. Boomer kids are in their 30's and 40's mostly. I swear I don't understand the obsession with that generation on here.

As for increase in wages, ever hear of supply and demand?

What if I don't marry my fiance who makes $32,000? If she quits her job, will she get the $50,000?

Romney is such a moron.

This is not the result of boomers, every generation must find their own way and work to achieve their goals. Sounds like you would like the easy way out

Most generations have went off to war to fight for the freedom in this country that is being stolen from us- we got our education or training and we have a work ethic, hard work yields results.

Explain to me why the boomers are supposed to give you what you want on a silver platter? It was not given to them or the great generation

Depends on when you want the financial collapse to occur, to sustain the system eventually the directly payments will have to increase and increase exponentially.

What started out as cash for clunkers will eventually lead to no taxes for lower earners to exponential increase in direct payment from the government.

The system is somewhere in the 4th quarter or OT... depends on whether one wants to try and make it two OTs.

So basically I’d have to change my withholding for my paycheck. Right now I have two exemptions or whatever there called and so does my wife. So four total. We have three kids and a mortgage. That’s how we arrived at 4 total. I’d basically get less in my paycheck and in its place a check from the government. Although it sounds like I’d come out ahead a little bit versus now.

Boy will people be in for a sticker shock the first time they file taxes if this goes into effect and they don’t adjust withholding on their end.

Yeah. I have a very strong feeling this will bite a lot of people who dont read the fine print in the arse. But the real question remains... why not get rid of all that crap and lower the GD tax rates.

It practically was compared to today. Since the sixties, real wages have gone up about two dollars an hour. Yes, you’re reading that correctly. If you look at adjusted home prices from say 1965, the median house in America should cost about $165,000 if home prices increased at the same rate as labor.

Yet the median home price today is about $280,000. So tell me how I pay for something that is $115,000 more expensive than it should be with an extra two bucks an hour.

And that’s just home prices, things like college have gone up like ten thousand percent compared to what boomers had to pay. Healthcare costs have gone up thousands of percentage points. And you think current generations should be able to pay for all of that with an extra two dollars an hour, and if they can’t they’re lazy and stupid. You guys had it so easy compared to younger generations and you just don’t know what you’re talking about.

You actually believe the reductions will happen?

They will pay out the money and the Republicans will artfully negotiate away all of the pieces making it revenue neutral.

I would have a hard time arguing against this printing press money madness if all the wealthy elites donated 90% of their net worth to the cause....aka federal government.

The declining birth rate in the Industrialized West is the natural response to this shite.

It's the more peaceful of two solutions here.

We’re moving towards a post-work society because greedy boomers haven’t raised wages in line with inflation and cost of living increases. The price of everything has gone up, except labor. That’s why new home ownership is at all time lows, birth rates are at all time lows, etc. Kids living with their parents long into their 20s because they don’t have enough money to buy the things their parents did, thanks to boomer greed.

So much nonsense in one post. I’ll just address the first one.

What is truly greedy, is anyone from current generations that think they will be part of the “post-work” society. That would theoretically be hundreds of years into the future and will not actually ever happen because of the rate in which we are coddling those that think that era is upon us with handouts that will rob future generations from the advancements necessary to get there.

And I know we are not currently in that era because I work at a small company you have never heard of and there is tons of work left to do every single day. The problem is that folks like you have no idea that these places exist because you either don’t have the motivation to get there or don’t have compatible skills your presences not being aligned with job supply or that lack of motivation mentioned previously

I was raised by boomers. They have their faults but so do we.
