TD is my only form. Facebook and Twitter are cesspools.

I deleted, not deactivated, my FB account last December and haven’t missed it one bit.

I was never very bad about it, but over the past several years, all of the content is just straight ignorant drivel... or maybe I should getting better friends?

Also, never got into the twittergramsnap or whatever the frick it is

I deleted my accounts on FB and Twitter this week. Twitter became so toxic.

Also dumped LinkedIn. Not for the same reasons as I did FB and Twitter. Tired of the BS inspirational posts by people and head hunters bugging me.

Only social media networks I have bothered with for years are stuff that act like meetup and are for getting groups of people together for like minded things without anyone having all of you life's details.

Those are fine and good ways to be happy.

Exactly. Social media is social media because it is not anonymous.

Saying that TD is just social media that is anonymous is like saying basketball is just soccer with an orange ball. Yeah, they both involve using a ball, but they have completely different dynamics.

If you want your definition of "social media" to be any online forum where people can converse and post stuff, that's fine. By that definition, we've had social media pretty much as long as the internet has existed. But that's not what most people consider social media to be, which is why "social media" didn't become part of our lexicon until Facebook came along.

It's the non-anonymity that makes social media what it is. Your social media account is intended to be an extension of your actual life where people you actually know (or don't know) observe you, interact with you, judge you, disagree with you, love you, and hate you. And when I say "you" I mean literally YOU; not just an abstract idea of you or your TD handle.

TD is none of that. I'm not saying using TD is morally superior to using twitter. I'm just saying that they are very different things, and it's the anonymity that makes all the difference.

By your standards, commenting on a Business Report article under LSU27 is also social media.

Well, yes it is.

I will say it seems boomers have much more sense than you kids.

Don't squander the nice life your boomer parents set you up with.

The real test is giving up TD.

Yes, this is a form of social media... but you can argue semantics all you like.

The only thing I have is facebook and that's just for messenger. You don't have to scroll the timeline if you don't want to.

People that can't see the difference are just being willingly obtuse.

I understand that, but I don't have all those photos on this iPhone. Going forward I do use that, but there's a ton from when my boy was a baby. Is there a service to download all pics and videos from facebook at once. I'd use it in a heartbeat and say goodbye to FB forever.

I ditched Facebook three years ago and never got on Instagram, TikTok, or anything else and it is beautiful. There is enough craziness on this board alone to keep me occupied

You mean you can be racist and your black friends won’t find out.

TD doesn’t count since I’m not being inundated with posts about what a repulsive racist I am day in and day out.

It absolutely counts because it warps your perception of what is happening in the real world.
