With BLM turning on Biden, Trump has an opportunity to swallow up a lot of the black vote, imo. We know he isn't going to defund police, but what he could do that would go a long ways towards helping this "problem", imo, is simply sign an executive order mandating that all police officers are to leave their body cameras on at all times when dealing with the public. Make clear that if a police officer turns off his camera he will receive an automatic tampering with evidence charge.

Then make clear that this is only one step in broader policing reform that his administration will undertake in effort to alleviate the public's grievances.

I actually agree 100% and it would be a master stroke for OMB

Legalize weed federally and suspend low level weed related sentences, would get at least 10% more of the black vote. It would be called criminal justice reform

Nah. He shouldn't force states, cities, and parishes/counties via federal executive order.

At most, he could create a task force and have them submit suggestions to states. But I don't even like that idea. The federal government shouldn't be telling any of these places how to police themselves.

and what gives him the authority to create such an edict? that's the stupidest proposal i've heard in a long time (and I've noticed you've made a lot of really dumb statements). It's not the president's job to create law.

You are living in a dream world you deluded idiot. Blacks saw Trump use Floyd's name to pump himself up over jobs. He basically said "today was a great day for George" because his job numbers were up? How loathsome do you have to be to claim it's a great day for a man murdered by police a week earlier, over job numbers? How was it a great day for Floyd?

Everyone knows Trump is a racist f**k and so are the vast majority of his supporters. If you have to go that far back to find anything good to say about Republicans, then you've already failed.

Upon what authority? The cities that are having the problem are Democratic cesspools that don't want a white Republican President telling them what to do. So, it's not as simple as you think.

Why does the whole entire world revolve around making an impression on 13% of the population?

Bunny Colvin on The Wire summed up the problem pretty well. Give cops surplus military hardware and tell them they're in a war and pretty quick they'll be acting like soldiers. And a soldier needs an enemy. So now he's no longer a policeman protecting his beat, he's a soldier in occupied territory.

Trump should declare that he'll dedicate his next term to spinning down and ending the war on drugs.

Agreed.

I’m for it on the part of protecting the police rather than protecting some criminal.

Combine that with the legalization of marijuana and trump might have 65% of the black vote come November

We don't need the federal government issuing new orders to local police. How would you like a President Biden using the precedent to issue his own EO to make police kneel before they can arrest someone.

Two things.

What you said

And end no knock search warrants nationally.

That shite is unacceptable. I know if I hear my door burst open in the middle of the night the first thing I'm doing is grabbing my gun and I'm firing at the first motion I see out of fear

This really wouldn’t be a pandering political move, but an actual policy change that would make a difference.

Congress should change 1983 statute so that cops lose their civil immunity if they aren’t wearing and jury should get a spoliation instruction

If Trump ended qualified immunity and required 100% body cams for police to receive federal dollars he would solve 99% of the issues people have with police. He would do more to reform policing for good than any dem in recent history.

If an officer purposely turns one off and harm befalls a citizen then I can agree. However, problem is body cameras don't function 100% of the time. They are electronic equipment and are not 100 percent reliable. Trust me I know.

Decriminalize marijuana federally. Reducing penalties for petty drug charges. Campaign for less aggressive proactive policing/search and frisk. Coming out against no knock warrants (seems like a lot of the more tragic cases of death by police are wrongful victim/wrong house kind of things). I think those kind of things would go a long way with building some trust from one end.

Obviously there needs to be a lot of introspection on the other side as well.
