re: What was the key to fixing your driver slice when you started golfing?

So looking at two still shots is not normally a good standard to go off of...BUT, looking at these two the biggest thing I am seeing is your left toe.
in the first picture you are in a pretty good loaded position at the top, and when you transition it looks like you are spinning your left toe out. Normally this isn't that big a deal, except that in my experience you have more weight on your heals than evenly spread out through your feet. this is causing more of a spinning action than a turning of the hips, which will cause a flair or slice to the right.
TIP:
Take an old club and lay it down next to your left foot (grip touching the outside of your shoe). Take a few slow practice swings and and try not to move the club, gradually increase swing speed trying NOT to move the club with your left foot. evenly you will learn how to stay through the shot and not spin out of it
Obviously with your baseball background, being a right handed batter (I'm guessing) spinning on your left heel is semi-natural, and you have translated that to your golf game.

Thanks, wouldn't have caught that

Not a long term solution or very ethical, but Vaseline on the club face will reduce any spin. lol

Also, you gotta be careful with “clearing the hips”
This right here. Was in the same boat OP, played baseball through high school, decently athletic and started playing 2 summers ago. Game came pretty naturally but really struggled with slicing the driver.
Still do if I clear my hips too aggressively and at the wrong time.
No homo but you look fairly natural and athletic from the shots. Big helpers from me are focus on clearing hands at the correct time and also shorten the back swing ala Finau, that has helped me tremendously control the club head. Most of your power comes from legs/hips anyway, don't need a John Daly backswing to hit it 250+ on a consistent basis.
I'd watch vids and focus on hip clearing correctly, you're probably hitting it pretty strong, just gotta get those hands moving at the right time to close the face naturally. There's also a guy on IG, FVZGOLF that will analyze and help your swing front and back for like $30 bucks, its pretty legit and has helped me a lot during lockdown.
^ All shite everyone has posted but it has changed my game completely. Dropped 4-5 strokes per round from it and don't have to hit my 3 wood off every tee anymore.

This is good stuff right here as well. Really have to focus on weighting the feet correctly vs baseball naturally against the front heel.

Mine was switching from an interlock to a ten finger "baseball" grip on my woods. I have a natural draw with my irons.
I can still slice it into the next parish when I overswing lol

If you are in the Birmingham area go see Archie Burroughs.

Take a full turn.
Stay behind the ball.

At the top, things look really solid.
You are turning, not swaying.
My problem is sometimes I sway instead of turn.
You are not swaying.
Did you have your driver fitted for shaft stiffness, kick, etc?

“Athletic Motion Golf”...that’s Shuan Webb who is the pro at David Toms 265 Academy. He’s a damn good instructor and have gotten a couple of lessons from him out there.

I just looked at a different video from a few weeks ago. My club head is getting on the outside of the target line. Hands are drifting out creating the steeper angle of attack. Even with a square face that's going to put side spin on the ball. I really think that's going to be my main issue and a difficult one for me to correct.
If it starts straight and then fades then your club face is likely square at impact and your swing path is out to in.
You are coming over the top. Your first move from the top is probably with your shoulders and upper body. Watch some videos about coming over the top. Initiate the downswing with your lower body and drop your hands down instead of coming over
I picture hitting the inside of the ball and following through to the outside of the ball as I keep my head behind the ball and let my wrists naturally roll over. Loose hands and wrists are very important if you do it right you shouldn’t have to “control” the face or path.

I agree. That place is like golf heaven

100% of slices are caused by an outside to in swing path with an open face. Fix the path first. It’s easier to fix the face once your path is right.

For me it was alignment. My feet pointed a little left and my club face was at the target. Once someone showed me what to do with my feet it immediately helped the slice.

That's the same tip as knuckles down I believe. Same tip changed by iron game.
I think you’re right. It’s amazing what such a simple move / feeling can do to your ball flight and game.

Alignment compensation, back shoulder (right or left depending on player) at times being in front of front shoulder and time.
Go to the range use appropriate alignment, stance and swing path. Duff a 100 balls but keep going because eventually it will click.
Golf is a 10,000 hour sport for most. Change won't come over night be patient. If it doesn't change just bring more beer and 'enjoy nature'.

“My” driver isn’t fitted. The woods/driver I’m using were free. Honestly my swing speed probably is fitted to a regular flex shaft. I started with a ladies flex (girlfriends moms clubs) and used a senior flex on Saturday (girlfriends clubs)
Sliced one on the first hole. My swing thought was to get the knuckles down. I used the driver on probably 13/18 holes and only had one more slice. I did pull (not hook) two and hit a pop fly to shallow center on one. Hard to tell for me if the knuckles down was a “fix” or if I just managed to do a sequence of things correctly. We played a scramble on the back 9 and ended up playing my tee shot on 7/9 holes. My buddy has played for a while and typically out drives me by 20 yards. I kind of black out on the tee box so it’s hard for me to realize what’s working without videoing it. I know I’m still not getting all of my weight onto the front foot, but I found it hard to focus on that when I was hitting them relatively straight by focusing on getting my knuckles down
